It’s a great upgrade for the core experience in Subway Surfers! The game receives a modern art style, fresh modes, and new mechanics.

After some pretty cool collaborations in 2025, Subway Surfers treats players to an even more amazing event. In fact, we get a new game in the series! The developers call it an extension of the Subway Surfers universe, and it adds a special city and more adventures.

New ideas in the City upon the classic Subway Surfers characters and mechanics

If you just watch the trailer, you can notice a big shift in the art style for Subway Surfers City. We still don’t know how the game really feels in action, but the video certainly gives us some modernized vibes. In a way, this visual and atmosphere update resembles the aesthetic jump between the classic and modern Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

This style should be reflected in new animations and probably subtle physics in the new game.

New and familiar characters

While still not revealing who’ll be added to Subway Surfers City, the developers from SYBO promise to refresh the playable roster.

  • For around 14 years of existence, the original game has accumulated quite a lineup of characters. Some of them move to the City as reimagined versions of themselves.
  • New characters should join the game with later content seasons.

Four districts to unlock in Subway City

In the World Tour, players can travel across the globe to enjoy new views and local train aesthetics. In Subway Surfers 2, the adventures move into one dedicated city.

Subway City has four districts. We can unlock them and race on the railway track there.

  • The Docks
  • Southline
  • Sunrise Blvd
  • Delorean Park

In addition to the base game, Subway Surfers City will be getting new content each season, including locations, named neighborhoods, and cosmetics for characters and their hoverboards.

Game modes and new mechanics in Subway Surfers City

The classic experience in Subway Surfers is an endless running track. The goal is to reach as far as possible and collect tons of coins or special items. The speed and difficulty increase, so reaching the top placements on the leaderboard is quite a task.

Subway Surfers City keeps this mode as Classic Endless. The sequel also has two new options.

  • City Tour: The tracks here have their finish line, and players should reach specific goals to progress through levels and complete missions.
  • Events: This game mode in Subway City offers various tracks and challenges. It feels like a destination for skilled and experienced players.

As for new game mechanics, Subway Surfers City introduces some of them right on release. The initial reveal names two of them.

  • A stomp helps find hidden advantages.
  • A bubblegum shield increases bounce ability to jump on a new quality level.

Some surprise mechanics should become known only when the game is available to play.

The collaboration events of 2025 significantly expanded the horizons of possibilities in Subway Surfers. Specifically, the Brawl Stars event featured live multiplayer runs, which certainly felt awesome! We should wait and see if Subway Surfers can offer something of that sort.
