Six abilities for each side are in the mysterious book Codex of Doom. Angels and Demons should select one wisely to progress quickly in Brawl Stars.

Each time you start a new day in Brawl Stars during the Angels vs Demons season, the game randomly assigns you to one of the battling sides. This changes a lot of aspects: from the general atmosphere in the main lobby to various practical abilities you can use in the matches.

The Brawl Stars Codex of Doom is a book located on the left menu. It was sealed during the Halloween season (they asked players not to tap it, but who listened…). Now, you can open it and find all your Angelic and Demonic abilities there. Only one can be used at a time, so choosing the right power-up for specific brawlers and game modes directly affects your results. In this Brawl Stars guide, you’ll find all the details about the abilities of Angels and Demons, including tips on how to succeed during this season.

All Angels vs Demons abilities in Brawl Stars

There are 12 Angelic and Demonic abilities in total, six for each side. They are listed and explained below.

Angelic abilities

In general, the abilities of Brawl Stars Angels are focused on healing your brawler and supporting your teammates.

  • Radiant Touch: Your Angelic character creates a healing aura by damaging opponents.
  • Ascension: It’s a boost of the movement speed.
  • Blessed Barrier: When you deal damage to your opponents, this ability creates a protective shield.
  • Rebirth: Your brawler escapes death, knocks surrounding opponents away, continues playing with 1 point of health, and enjoys a short period of invulnerability.
  • Smite: Shooting beams of light becomes an extra tool in the arsenal of your Brawl Stars characters. They damage opponents and slow them down.
  • Seraphim: The ability creates ally bots for each dead teammate.

Demonic abilities

The Demonic abilities are mainly about damaging opponents and creating all sorts of troubles for them. But Brawl Stars Demons can heal as well. Like the Angelic abilities, the Demonic power-ups become stronger if you have Demons on your team.

  • Siphon: It heals you and your Demon teammates after dealing damage to your opponents.
  • Conjuring Chaos: Demonic minions appear when you kill an opponent.
  • Fury: The ability increases your movement speed.
  • Revengeance: When defeated, your brawler deals lots of damage to surrounding opponents.
  • Demonfire: It increases the movement speed and leaves a damaging trail of fire.
  • Gluttony: A Power Cube spawns when you kill an opponent. It increases health and improves attacks of your brawler.

How to unlock abilities for Brawl Stars Codex of Doom

First, you need to get assigned to one of the sides, Angels or Demons. Launch Brawl Stars for the first time on a game day, and you’ll see a clear notification: you become an Angel or a Demon. On weekends, the game gives you a free choice, so you can decide the side to play for.

The abilities drop from Angelic and Demonic Starr Drops. You get them in different ways.

  • Two free Starr Drops are available in the game shop: one for both sides. Then, you can buy more for Gems.

Tips and tricks: Brawl Stars Codex of Doom

The first thing to understand is that your Demonic and Angelic abilities work only in specific game modes.

  • Check if the game mode of your choice has the special Angels vs Demons icon (the Chaos modifier). Only when it is there, will you be able to use the seasonal abilities.
  • The Brawl Stars Contest matches are all eligible for the Angelic and Demonic abilities. The exact mode you play in this section changes regularly.
  • Play special seasonal game modes. The abilities are always active in Spirit Wars, Soul Collector, and Trio Showdown — these modes are explained in our general Brawl Stars Angels vs Demons article.

Abilities for game modes

At the beginning of the season, you naturally have only a few abilities available. It’s better to select game modes according to the power-ups, as some abilities are better for specific Brawl Stars events. Then, when your Codex of Doom is full, you can choose your favorite mode and the best ability for it.

  • The movement speed abilities (Demonfire, Fury, and Ascension) are better for Showdown, Brawl Ball, Knockout, and other modes where players chase each other. They are less effective in Hot Zone or Gem Grab, where taking an area under your control is a key factor.

  • Revengeance has no point if you should avoid getting killed at any cost. In Knockout, you do not respawn, and you may be the last one standing, so such an ability is not a good choice for this game mode. It’s better for Showdown. Also, when finishing a mission is the key, you need an ability that helps you with this, not one that works after your death: Brawl Ball is not a mode for Revengeance.
  • Seraphim and Conjuring Chaos are generally very effective. They are arguably the best abilities in the Angels vs Demons Brawl Stars season. But you can’t take the role of a damage dealer, who often dies after initial aggression to let the teammates seal the deal. You need to be alive for the ability to work.
  • Rebirth is great for Brawl Ball when you often need just a few moments of life to score, being surrounded by opponents. It is less effective in crowded game modes, like Trio Showdown, when you tend to bump into someone when your invisibility is over.
  • Healing and protecting abilities are rather universal across Brawl Stars game modes. Take Siphon, Gluttony, Radiant Touch, and Blessed Barrier to any type of match.
  • Smite is also universal, so use it for any mode. It is better to focus on defense with it as offense happens automatically.

Abilities for brawlers

While choosing your Angelic or Demonic power-up, consider the style of your brawler and your personal preferences in Brawl Stars.

  • Take Demonfire, Fury, and Ascension to increase movement speed for ranged attacks to be able to keep a safe distance.
  • For short-ranged brawlers, it may be better to have healing (Radiant Touch, Siphon) or protective power-ups (Blessed Barrier).

For example, Buzz and Edgar will benefit from Siphon or Blessed Barrier. Their Supers send them directly to opponents, and they need to survive that intense fight and take the victims down. Darryl and Barley are played differently, but both will benefit from the extra speed of Ascension or Fury while moving away from danger.

Play Brawl Stars with friends

It is always better to play with friends, as you can take different team roles and coordinate your actions — just like pro players do during esports events, such as Brawl Stars World Championship 2024. The Angels vs Demons abilities emphasize this principle a lot, as some power-ups become stronger if your entire team is on one of the sides.

  • Radiant Touch and Ascension for Angels plus Siphon and Conjuring Chaos for Demons are more effective if your teammates are also Angels or Demons.

The Brawl Stars Angels vs Demons event continues till Dec. 5, 2024. The next season should feature an interesting collaboration, as it was with SpongeBob. What can it be? For all Brawl Stars news and updates, stick around on esports.gg!
