Marvel Rivals had to reassure its playerbase regarding Chrono Shield Cards following backlash on its reveal.

Marvel Rivals announced Galacta's Gift with lots of free goodies to celebrate one year since the game entered closed alpha. However, one of the rewards caused an outcry in the community. Here's why Marvel Rivals had to clarify what the Chrono Shield Cards are for and why players shouldn't be concerned.

The Galacta's Gift is an ongoing in-game event that features a short track of free rewards. Players can earn one reward per day by playing three games. Check out all the rewards here.

At first glance, you may go "yay, free cosmetics!" but players quickly gravitated to the eight Chrono Shield Cards in the reward track.

The Chrono Shield Card's description was also visible in the Galacta's Gift reveal video.

The reactions to this were immediate and extremely negative. The replies scorned the developers for adding the Cards to Marvel Rivals.

The quotes were no different, either. Popular content creators in the Marvel Rivals community held a similar sentiment.

"Imagine trying your hardest and your teammate says 'who gaf I have 18 chrono shields left'," streamer Venta wrote.

More content creators like Evelyn "eskay" Hollis, Flats, and Siarhei "Bogur" Alekau also chimed in:

However, these seem to stem from the misunderstanding that Galacta's Gift is a paid track when, in reality, it is a free rewards track for all players in the game. Nevertheless, these were valid concerns at the time. Marvel Rivals introduced the existence of the Cards, and there was a non-zero chance that they would put them up for purchase in the future.

The community backlash prompted the official account to clarify its purpose and how it can be acquired.

Hey Rivals, Both Chrono Shield Tokens from ranked matches and Chrono Shield Cards from events will not be for sale and are only usable for Gold rank and below. The purpose is to allow lower-ranked players to enter ranked mode with even less pressure through this mechanism.

They clarified that just like Chrono Shield Tokens, the Cards will only be usable for players in Gold and below. Their intention is to lower the pressure experienced by players when playing ranked.

One more important bit of detail is that the Cards will not be for sale. This means they will only be acquirable for free from events like Galacta's Gift.
