Rekkles role swap announced: From brilliant ADC to support

There’s a new role for Rekkles as the summer split approaches.

After years of playing ADC across Europe, Carl Martin Erik "Rekkles" Larsson announced that he will be moving away from that role.

Rekkles secured numerous pentakills

As one of the most famous players to come out of Europe, Rekkles' career spoke for itself. As an ADC, Rekkles secured ten pentakills both on the international stage and home turf of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) and the Ligue Française de League of Legends (LFL).

While Rekkles secured numerous pentakills on his signature ADCs, Fans will now get to watch if he can reach the same level of success on support. Rekkles streamed himself playing support before, and is now ready to bring something new to his career.

Reasons for Rekkles' role swap

In a video posted across social media, Rekkles announced his reasons for wanting to swap roles. He felt he had reached his potential as an ADC and wanted to try something new.

Rekkles is not the first player to role swap. In 2019 and 2020 G2 Esports' Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther and Luka "Perkz" Perković changed roles. Cloud9's Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen also swapped from ADC to support.

"I'm a really good ADC, but I've reached a point where I'm just treading water"

It is unclear how Rekkles plans to play as a support and where it could take him. But having seen him play support on stream and given how excited he is for the new challenge, we wish him the best of luck.

Rekkles' role swap and its impact on the summer split

FNATIC also posted an announcement on social media about how Rekkles' role swap was affecting the summer split. Fans also questioned how this would affect FNATIC's current support of Henk '"Advienne" Reijenga.

In FNATIC's announcement about the role swap for Rekkles, the organization stated that as part of a mutual decision, they would not include Rekkles in the starting lineup for LEC Summer 2023.

This means FNATIC is now looking for a new ADC to fill the gap.
