The former world champion will be rejoining his old team in their quest to regain their throne at the top of the LCK.

After taking a sabbatical following the 2021 LoL World Championship, superstar top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon will be returning to professional League with his former team DWG KIA. This was first reported by Korizon Esports on Twitter, stating the former World Champion is set to return and join his former side.

Nuguri parted ways with LPL giant FunPlus Phoenix following the 2021 World Championship. He and the rest of his team came up way short of the expectations placed on them. FPX bombed out in groups with a 2-4 record, finishing in last place below Cloud9 and Rogue.

After worlds had concluded, Ashley Kang reported the 2020 World Champion would be taking a break from professional play. Despite rumors of Nuguri’s return, those were quickly shut down.

Nuguri had a solid 2021 and DWG KIA fans should be very excited at the prospect of the superstar top laner returning to his old stomping ground as they bid for their second international title. While FPX did not secure a title, going into the event they were definitely a tournament favorite.

Nuguri reuinted with ShowMaker and Canyon

The superstar top laner would be teaming up once again with ShowMaker and Canyon. The trio helped Damwon lift the summoners cup in 2020. Despite DWG KIA’s best efforts, the 2022 spring split did not go to plan, the 2021 worlds finalists were inches away from making it back to the finals but fell short to Gen.G.

The major regions have been put on high alert

With T1 regaining their stop at the top of Korea, it seems Damwon were not ready to give up on the quest to be the best again. With Nuguri back in the top lane, this makes for a very scary LCK lineup for Worlds 2022. Gen.G, T1 and DWG are three teams that can set the world alight at LoL’s biggest event. Although T1 had a monstrous spring split, these are the two teams that can challenge the kings.
