Mel’s League of Legends release has sparked a lot of conversation online, with the ability to deflect projectiles back to their casters.
It has only been a few days since we first heard details of the next League of Legends (LoL) champion coming to Summoner’s Rift, as Mel Medarda follows in the footsteps of her mother, Ambessa.
Mel’s unique skills have been the talk of the community, with one of her abilities allowing her to reflect skills back to their caster if timed correctly. While a host of abilities make complete sense, such as Caitlin or Ashe's ultimate abilities, some are far more obscure and seem weird when they are reflected.

Mel’s Rebuttal has some brilliant interactions
Vandiril, one of the most well-known LoL bug-catchers and video creators, was quick to document Mel’s W – called Rebuttal, and every interaction it has within the game.
While spell shields exist in the game, Mel’s works very differently and has a chance to quickly turn some of the game’s strongest spells and skills back to their caster. In the video below from Vandiril, you can see each ability and how it interacts with Mel’s Rebuttal.
As stated previously, many interactions are expected from projectiles in LoL, which you will see in the above video. However, there are a few that are much more interesting to see such as Pyke’s stun which is reflected to stun anyone within its radius. The reasoning behind this is that Pyke’s Phantom Undertow creates a projectile behind him, which is then reflected by Mel’s Rebuttal.
One of the most interesting aspects of Rebuttal is that, even though it only lasts for a second, it can reflect multiple abilities during that time. However, if an ability lasts longer than that, the damage will continue – such as Miss Fortune’s Bullet Time ultimate. There are multiple other hilarious interactions, with Briar’s Certain Death ultimate being particularly brilliant, taking Mel back to the casting champion.
Players have been able to test Mel on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) for a few days now, and it seems as though when she releases on January 23, she will quickly become a fan-favorite in the mid-lane. Whether or not she will find her way into professional play as fast remains to be seen, but players can shut her down fast as a Mage without an escape ability.
