G2 Esports x T1: The best friends against each other

If you have been following the LoL pro scene for quite a while, you should be familiar with the great relationship between G2 Esports and T1. But today, they are battling against each other. Which team will qualify for the Knockout Stage?

G2 started well in the Swiss Stage with an easy victory against paiN Gaming, now eliminated from LoL Worlds 2024. However, in the second match, G2 battled Hanwha Life Esports, the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) winner. The European team would not lose again, having a great game and victory against Weibo Gaming in the following stage. Today, they will face one of their best friends, T1, who has a huge history of victories. Will the European team be able to prove their strength?

The T1 history in LoL is unavoidable. They are one of the best teams in the world. After many losses and tears, they were able to win the LoL Worlds 2023. They came back with a rough start, losing against Top Esports in the first game of the Swiss Stage, but they keep going with two wins against paiN Gaming and BLG. Will they be able to win a third time in a row?

LoL Worlds 2024 G2 vs T1: Match recaps

Welcome to the Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage recaps. Here, you'll find the key moments of every match between G2 Esports and T1. Come back here when the games end.

Match 1

The kills went to Gumayusi with only 1:15 minutes into the game. Mikyx was caught in the middle of the whole T1 team. Caps was giving a masterclass on the mid-lane by dodging every ability from Oner and Faker. In the second attempt, Nocturne was there to protect Cap’s Orianna. And in a great pick on bot lane, Hans Sama's Draven killed Keria.

With a lane swap, Hans Sama ended up dying in the bot lane for Zues’ Gragas, the first Gragas of the whole tournament. Three Voids for G2, one Drake for T1. The teams started to prepare for the last three grubs. Three for three, but the fight ended up beneficiating T1 more. However, Hans Sama collected two enormous kills. The tension was absurd.

The game was looking too good for T1. The gold was increasing for their side, but the G2 picks were not so good and never gave much to work with. G2 did not have enough damage to kill Skarner. The pick in mid-lane was huge for G2 Esports, but not game-changing enough. G2 tried to change their fate, but there was nothing more they could have done to stop the T1 draft.

The tanks were impossible to kill. This was the game of tanks! Zeus’ Gragas was too good to counter. T1 won the first match.

Match 2

The fight on the top side river was looking good, but Vi was able to run away from Nautilus' hook and G2 got three Voidgrubs. Overall, the game was very calm and balanced. The first kill was for Oner’ Vi just 10 minutes into the game. BrokenBlade ended up dying in bot lane and Vi did a double kill.

The fight on top lane was looking very good for G2. Faker missed everything, but he still kept getting out alive. T1 kept getting kills on BrokenBlade and doing Herald while G2 opted for Drake. It was a horror show with so many abilities failing in mid-lane! T1 was punishing the overextensions of G2. Losing Mikyx and Drake, G2 was not getting the right picks to change T1’s supremacy.

And the mid fight was huge for G2. The pick was amazing on Zeus, and Hans Sama was unbelievable. G2 also killed Keria in mid-lane while Jhin and Vi got out alive. What a performance! The game then just switched completely. And later on, T1 changed everything again. What a huge battle between both teams.

G2 killed Jax and took three inhibitors with them. Vi stole the Baron, G2 killed her, and double teleported to the top lane. T1 then did another Elder and Baron. Just like that, T1 ended the game and qualified for the Knockout Stage.
