FNC vs WBG: Is the European League of Legends strong enough?

After two incredibly tough drafts against Dplus KIA and Top Esports, Fnatic now faces their final chance to qualify for the 2024 LoL Worlds Knockout Stage. Their victory over GAM Esports wasn’t enough, and now they must take on one of the Chinese LoL powerhouses, Weibo Gaming.

Fnatic remains the only European team to ever win a LoL Worlds event, claiming the title in the inaugural 2011 championship. Will they rise to the occasion and win on home soil?

Weibo has had a rough start, with losses to Gen.G and G2 Esports. They managed to defeat North America's Team Liquid but now face another European challenge.

Their recent performance in the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) has been underwhelming, and following their defeat in the 2023 LoL Worlds Grand Finals against T1, they're eager to prove they've evolved and are determined to take the trophy home.

Worlds 2024: Fnatic vs Weibo Gaming match recaps

Welcome to the LoL Worlds 2024 match recaps. Here you can find the key moments of every match between FNC and WBG. Come back here when the games are over.

Match 1

The game started with an FNC invasion on the top side. Weibo has a huge start with a double kill for Xiaohu’s Lucian. Weibo does three void grubs that are very important to the snowball effect they need. On the top lane, FNC can get an important kill for Varus with a dive under Weibo’s tower.

Even with the two early kills, FNC seems to be doing well in the game. 2v2 in the top, still looking better for Weibo Gaming. Fnatic loses the second top turret in less than 14 minutes, Harold and Drake.

And in bot lane, FNC manages to find great picks and kills four Weibo players. What a huge fight for the European team. Razork is cooking! Fnatic does its first objective after a huge kill on mid-lane.

Fnatic was showing more confidence in their gameplay. Xiaohu’ Lucian was unbelievably good. The gold started to be more balanced, and Fnatic was doing more objectives on the map.

Weibo had to change its strategy. They had to invest more in the defence of their towers, especially the mid one. Fnatic was getting good picks everywhere, their map control was now too difficult for Weibo to deal with.

The amazing engage from Jun’s Rell was perfect to ace Weibo and end the game. What a support! And the first games go to Fnatic.

Match 2

Fnatic enters the second game pretty confident, making Orianna waste her spells early. But Weibo finds a great fight in the Fnatic jungle. The first kills go to Breathe’ Jax. However, it was not bad for Fnatic since Miss Fortune was able to get a kill too.

Jun was just too good with Rell, what amazing picks he’s getting! Jun’s Rell impact on these games has been absurd. Weibo has made objectives and tried to hang on to the game. In a great engage from Jun, Weibo still manages to get a good outcome from the fight killing two of Fnatic's players.

Fnatic was trying to keep the gold advantage on their side, but the side lane pushing from Breathe’s Jax was not allowing that. The game was much slower, with little confrontations, just farming.

Fnatic was trying to keep the gold advantage on their side, but the side lane pushing from Breathe’s Jax was not allowing that. The game was much slower, with little confrontations, just farming.

And just like that, Weibo Gaming manages to get a quadra kill for Ezreal in Fnatic’s jungle. How did this happen? What a great combo from Orianna, Skarner, and Ezreal. Weibo was changing the whole game! The patience and the confidence were undeniable.

Fnatic had to defend their base, but there was nothing more they could do to stop Weio Gaming. The second game was decided, it's a victory for Weibo Gaming.

Match 3

The last chance for both teams to prove their value. The losing team will pack their bags and go home. Fnatic brings a not-yet-seen champion, Swain, to the mid-lane. What are they cooking?

And the first kills go to Fnatic with an amazing gank from Vi. Weibo keeps going for the objectives, making Drake and three void grubs. Swain ends up killed in mid-lane and a very good gank for Weibo gives a kill for Rakan. Fnatic was getting more confident, trying picks on bot-lane, taking their opportunity to kill under the tower.

Weibo started to have an interesting amount of gold advantage after Ganar was left alone farming on the top side in exchange for a mountain drake. Gnar was starting to look really scary. The fights were looking too good for Weibo Gaming.

With an amazing ace on Baron’s pit, Weibo Gaming increased its supremacy against Fnatic. There was nothing more they could do. Weibo Gaming has still a chance to qualify for the Knockout Stage. Fnatic is going home.
