LoL Swiftplay to get more regions

Will other regions get Swiftplay? According to Riot Cadmus, the answer is yes. In a video, he revealed that the team is working to expand Swiftplay to more regions. However, the team is currently figuring out how and when to do so.

"We're currently figuring out how and when to bring it to regions that don't quite have it yet," Riot Cadmus said.

LoL Swiftplay regions

As of Feb. 7, the current Swiftplay regions include the following:

  • North America
  • Latin America North
  • Latin America South
  • EU West
  • EU Nordic & East
  • Russia
  • Brazil
  • Turkey
  • Taiwan
  • Vietnam

He then noted that the game mode has surpassed Riot Games' expectations and proven to be at least as popular as Quickplay. Swiftplay has also met its goals, including making matches an average of 4 to 5 minutes faster than those in the Summoner's Rift.

"We also wanted to reduce snowballing, the rubber-banding mechanics, allowing players to hit their full builds more often and allowing players to enjoy a game of League of Legends with friends of high skill gaps," he added.

League of Legends Swiftplay patch notes

In terms of pacing issues in Swiftplay, Riot Phroxzon said that the League of Legends team is satisfied with its early and mid-game balance. However, they do want to improve late-game pacing and the duration of long matches.

"Swiftplay just doesn't hit out goals for the queue when games aren't swift and everyone is stuck at level 18 trying to close out the game for a long time," Riot Phroxzon explained. "We've made some changes, such as minions getting stronger more quickly, tower resistances falling off sooner, as well as making structures slowly burn towards the Nexus, forcing the game to end."

These changes were made in the S1.25.3 update. Specifically, Sudden Death got introduced to Swiftplay.

"This will essentially mean that if a game lasts long enough, the team that can make the most progress towards the enemy Nexus will win," Riot Phroxzon added. "We're also going to looking at what we can do to improve things like matchmaking or lobby improvements of premades, and we'll let you know if we do anything there. These changes should be live by the time this video goes live, so let us know what you think."
