In 2027, the LoL team will finally bring a brand-new full-screen client, visual updates to the map, runes changes, and much more.
In a short video, the developers announced a brand-new update coming to the LoL client, something that has been requested for a while. They also discussed changes to the runes, a full visual overhaul of Summoner's Rift, and more coming after 2026. Let's dive into it!
League of Legends 2? Not happening!
In the last few months, there has been a rumour that Riot Games is working on a new game, which would be League of Legends 2. Well, the developers Andrei "Meddler" Van Roon and Paul "Pabro" Bellezza have clarified that it won't happen anytime soon.
New LoL full-screen client
However, one of the most requested updates is finally coming. The client will be changing a lot. According to the developers, the new LoL client will be fully integrated with the in-game experience, rather than a separate application like it is today. Riot Meddler explained on X that this new LoL client will be more cohesive and will finally be full-screen, like it is in VALORANT.
Summoner's Rift visual update and runes
Aside from the anticipated updates coming to the LoL client, Summoner's Rift will also change. The team is working on revamping Summoner's Rift with new visuals and new gameplay.
As for the runes system, there will be some updates that will also impact how you make some pre-game choices. "This should be the best time ever to get your friends into League," Riot Pabro added. The developers didn't share much, but they promised to show us some more details between the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the LoL Worlds 2026. These updates will land in 2027.
Until then, we will have many new updates to test and provide feedback on, as player opinions are crucial in shaping the game's direction. "This work is part of our efforts to refocus on what we believe matters most to you," Riot Meddled stated. "This next phase builds on that momentum and lays the groundwork for League’s next era."
