Riot Games confirmed the presence of LNG’s Scout in Worlds 2024. He was previously unable to compete due to a legal dispute.
Riot Games just published an update on the LNG mid-laner Lee "Scout" Ye-chan situation. The player, previously unable to fly out of China due to a legal dispute with his former team, EDward Gaming (EDG), is now free to play in League of Legends Worlds 2024 (LoL Worlds 2024).
Why was Scout ineligible to compete?
After winning LoL Worlds 2021 with EDG, Scout expressed his wish to return to his home country, South Korea. However, according to some rumors, he was in conversations with other teams without the EDG's consent. Even though he wanted to return to South Korea, he still played for EDG in the 2022 season.
Reportedly, Scout had a secondary contract with a League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) team not recognized by Riot Games or the Global Contract Database. Following these events, EDG filed a lawsuit against Scout. Being in the middle of a lawsuit, the mid-laner from LNG was unable to fly out of China to play in LoL Worlds 2024. Scout's agency accused EDG of lying.
The next solution was to find an emergency substitute. In conversations with Riot Games, a never-before-seen decision was made — a player from another team was going to represent LNG. Zeng "Yagao" Qi, the mid-laner from JD Gaming, was the chosen one.
