It is always great to witness G2 Esports and Fnatic playing against each other in a high-stakes match. One of these teams has been dominating the region for quite a while: G2 players are highly motivated to keep their status. The other team is eager to break this curse of being a runner-up. Fnatic certainly do their best to beat G2 and eventually win the LEC Summer 2024 Playoffs.

Game 1 went pretty well for G2 Esports. They won it, and the opinion that this was going to be a 3:0 match looked rather reasonable. But in game 2, G2 Esports got themselves a fragile team composition, a sort of glass cannon. One overstepping mistake from them let Fnatic win a fight and destroy the initial advantage of their opponents. Fnatic carried that game to a logical finish,1:1.

Game 3 turned out to be super close and the longest in the entire LEC Summer 2024 split! G2 Esports destroyed even one Nexus tower — so close they were to victory there. But Fnatic got themselves important kills, Dragon, Baron, and then rushed to take down Nexus.

Fnatic have reached match point, but they couldn’t win the series here. G2 Esports found their game, scaled the advantages of their champions properly, and confidently made the score even.

Game 5 decided everything. Fnatic had a good start, slowly gaining power. Just around minute 20, they contested Dragon and got five kills. Soon after that, there was another successful teamfight for Fnatic — near Baron this time. Fnatic secured this objective, destroyed two Inhibitors, and then did the same with the very Nexus of their opponents.

Fnatic proceed to the grand final of LEC Summer 2024 Playoffs, which happens on Sunday, July 28. And the team got themselves a ticket to LEC Finals 2024!

G2 won the lower-bracket final vs Team BDS, so they play against Fnatic again, in the grand final on July 28.

The team’s path to the LEC Summer 2024 Playoffs Final

G2 Esports had a surprisingly slow start in the Regular Season of the LEC Summer 2024 split. The team lost a few matches — reportedly due to the post-effect of being at the MSI 2024 and not performing really well at their match vs T1.

In the second half of the Regular Season, G2 recovered, got some victories, and proceeded to the Playoffs stage. The team achieved a shaky victory in round one against Karmine Corp. In the upper-bracket semi-final, G2 Esports were thorough and result-focused, so their victory over Team BDS looked confident.

Fnatic had a very good start to the Regular Season. It looked like they are a refreshed team at this LoL esports LEC Summer 2024 split. That impression was ruined closer to the end of that stage, and Fnatic finished 4th, right behind G2.

The team had some troubles in round 1 of the Playoffs — and specifically in game 1, which GIANTX managed to win thanks to some well-played moments. Still, this match and the following one vs SK Gaming brought victory to Fnatic. And in the semi-final, they looked quite strong. It totally wasn’t the bitter experience of Fnatic playing at the Esports World Cup 2024.

As for the head-to-head record, it is in favor of G2. They defeated Fnatic in the LEC Spring 2024 grand final. G2 won their match vs Fnatic in the LEC Summer 2024 Regular Season.

After this upper-bracket final, the Playoff stage of the split continues with a few lower-bracket matches. The grand final will determine the LEC Summer 2024 winner on Sunday, July 28.
