League of Legends is entering 2025 with many changes. New season models, client changes, and rank resets are some of the upcoming updates.

The new League of Legends season is coming in 2025 with many news, updates, and changes to the game. Two of them being a new season model and a different rank resets. Riot Games promises a unique experience to the player introducing thematic acts and seasons. Check out the developer's video if you want to see all the new updates. Let's dive into it.

New Season Model in 2025

In 2025, League of Legends will be divided into three thematic seasons, each one with two acts. Every season will have a specific theme. The first one is Noxus, but the remaining are still unknown. The players will go through a unique experience in League, traveling through different narratives, modes, mini-games, and much more.

Riot Games developers assured fans that events like Anniversary, April Fools, and Lunar Revel will happen even with the new seasons. The remaining skin lines will launch according to the season's theme. The goal is to make the player's experience more immersive and show more of Runeterra's lore.

League of Legends Client Changes

For some players, League of Legends's client is not clean. Next year's update will probably change your opinion. Riot Games will change the client, making it more appellative, structured, and organized. According to the developers, the client will be less noisy, integrating the season theme and reflecting the new experience Riot wants to give to players. Beyond the theme, you'll be able to see your progression throughout the season.

You can track time-limited events like Lunar Revel, new champions releases, your ranked journey, mini-games, and more from the sidebar in the Activity Center. Patch notes and other information were moved to the Info Hub to make it less noisy on the client's main page.

Every time a new patch drops the Info Hub will show up over the Activity Center to show a rotating list of what’s new: cinematics, new skins, new champions, esports news, Dev Updates, and more. For the TFT players, you can toggle to the TFT version of the Info Hub on the top left.

Ranked Updates

Ranked will be having some updates as well in 2025. Players started to complain about the mid-season ranked resets and Riot finally listened. In 2025, the game will have one rank reset at the beginning of every year. As for the achieving Victorious skins, things are going to change.

To earn the "chromaless" version of Victorious skins, you had to achieve Gold with 80 SP or grind out 1000 SP below Gold. In 2025, you'll still need to climb to get the corresponding chromas, but the requirement for the base skin will be to win 15 games of Ranked (solo/duo, flex, or a combination of the two) in each thematic Season.

You might be thinking: "This means we will only receive one victorious skin due to the only ranked reset?" That is wrong. Each season, you'll get a chance to receive a Victorious skin.

Returning to League of Legends in 2025

Many players take breaks from League of Legends. Some of them are very long (more than six months) which can affect the player's performance. For those who felt discouraged from playing League because they ended up Platinum and came back to Silver, Riot explains that is necessary to take you back into League in a smoother experience.

After a long break, you'll probably be performing poorly than you have before. That can disturb your teammate's experience and make Ranked more unstable. For now, this will be still happening since the win rate was not that big. For example, ex-Diamonds playing in Emerald are averaging a 48% win rate and the ex-Masters playing in Diamond are averaging a 49% win rate. Riot also explains that is still difficult to identify alts accounts.

The MMR will be soft-resetting next year in League of Legends. Mixing Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, and Challengers in the same matches was too frustrating for the lower LP players. For each split, Riot will be applying a "soft MMR" reset. This will give you a fair chance to reach the top ladder by making everyone start from roughly the same place.

Alt Accounts

The soft MMR came with another problem: the alt accounts were also able to reach high in the ranked higher. The current rank manipulation monitor has been having success. However, there are still a lot of new accounts each season that are boosted or manipulated. Riot is still working on a way to make proper adjustments to these cases.

As for the "dramatic drops" in rank placements, Riot admits to not giving much attention to skill distributions over the years. The most difficult thing to measure is the skill difference between regions. An Emerald in NA is not the same as China or Germany, for example. Because of the rank inflation, in some regions (especially larger ones) Emerald match quality was lower than others. This was due to the wide variance of skills of players in Emerald as well as Emerald being the top-end insertion point for alt accounts that performed very well in placements.

This has been a topic of debate within the community for a while, but Riot Games has not found a solution to adjust the rank inflation. They recognize these differences and will be watching closely how they evolve.
