Drew Levin, the Rioter cooking League of Legends players online

One Rioter by the name of Drew "just a capybara" Levin is bringing back glimpses of League of Legends community posts of olde as he goes on a legendary run online.

League of Legends is quite a dated game. It's approaching its 16th anniversary — over a decade and a half of patches, new champions, reworked Runes, removed Masteries, and visual updates. Over the years, the community has also changed. From friendly and casual forum posts, we now live in an age where toxicity is rampant (and sometimes, unavoidable), both in-game and on social media platforms.

First off, who is Drew Levin? According to his LinkedIn profile, he has been a Riot Games employee since 2022, first serving as the Director of Product Management for an unannounced R&D title before moving to the same position for League of Legends in 2023. On his X profile, only "product & strategy" is listed, but that still gives us a good idea of what falls under his wing.

He was even kind enough to say what his responsibilities are (or aren't). "I'm not a member of the balance team... I'm also not on the skins team," Levin posted. He does welcome bug reports though, an opportunity that many have taken him up on.

You may also have seen him in some of the dev updates that League of Legends uploads from time to time, introducing himself as Riot just a capybara.

He has spent the past week responding to players. The authenticity of his replies and how he does not shy away from furthering conversations was a sight to behold.

Seeing his energy in responding inspired many to tag him on their various grievances, bug reports, and opinions. Even I had to join in on the fun and got a reply in under 20 minutes.

As with open channels, though, he was on the receiving end of a lot of frustration from players. Sometimes, his responses are friendly. However, for others, especially this one person lamenting Riot's actions to prevent account boosters... well, let's just say Drew Levin cooked them real good.

Of course, it's not only the regular people that Riot just a capybara replies to. His activity extends to known content creators, with some, like streamer Tahm Kench one-trick Whatley, applauding his openness after they had quite the heated conversation. "More people should 100% follow him... [it's] refreshing to have people on the Riot side of things that feel comfortable discussing different perspectives," wrote Whatley.

Content creators aren't safe from his wrath, though. Joshua "ProjectAsheNA" Waldow tried to plead for some Ashe buffs via a post accompanied with some gameplay, but Drew Levin gave him a stern talking-to.

Generally, though, Riot just a capybara's receptiveness to the community's thoughts and willingness to communicate information both ways have been nothing short of impressive. He immediately became endeared to the community, especially since we no longer feel like our concerns are falling on deaf ears.

After all of these, he's also not stuck up to not have fun.
