Evidence suggests officials remade Halo World Championship Grand Final map with incorrect scores

Love it or hate, Spacestation Gaming is the winner of the 2024 HaloWC. Was this win a bit tainted, though? Some of the community seems to think so, as they've dug up evidence of a potentially critical mistake by officials during the Grand Final of the Halo World Championship.

OpTic Gaming were up three maps to SSG's zero. During map four, Oddball on Recharge, Eco disconnected and officials remade the map. It appears when the remake happened, SSG were given OpTic's score and vice versa, pushing SSG to a slight lead they did not previously have.

Let's take a look at the evidence and the community reaction.

There have been claims of "reset cheese" all year for Spacestation Gaming. They've won three Majors and the Halo World Championship, so of course, there is merit to their victories. Fans of other teams feel like there is some favoritism, however.

What happened during the HaloWC Grand Final does not do much to negate those claims. Let's set the stage. OpTic still need to win one map to reset the bracket, igniting another best-of-seven series against SSG for the trophy.

Map four is underway, Oddball on Recharge. SSG is up one round, and in the second, OpTic take a short early lead of 26-21. Eco disconnects, which officials investigate and declare that the map should be remade from the disconnection point.

After a short break, we jump back into the game, but the scores are swapped. SSG has 26 and OpTic has 21. Even the casters mention OpTic has a sliver of a lead before the action picked back up. But no one says a thing about the score change, during that moment or in any moment after.

OpTic still needed to put one map away to reset the bracket, then win another best-of-seven. So, in the grand scheme, does this mistake truly matter? Perhaps not. SSG could very well have comeback and won with the correct scores, but it is a blatant misstep by tournament officials.

Again, the margin was so small that it may not have mattered at all. It still has some members of the community in an uproar. This is the Halo World Championship we're talking about here, so it comes down to the principle of the matter.

You can read an entire Reddit thread started by the same individual from the X post above, bringing attention to this mistake. The round would be how SSG gained their first map victory, on their way to a reverse sweep against OpTic.

Many community members have replied to the HCS and Halo on X, hoping to at least get a statement on what occurred during the Halo World Championship Grand Final. Some OpTic fans are a bit more extreme with their statements, thinking all the connection problems and resets were why their team lost.

So, regardless of what happens next, SSG will more than likely remain your 2024 Halo World Championship winners. Don't expect them to gather up the teams and run an entire Grand Final again. It is a bit perplexing, however, that in a match this important, a mistake like this was able to slide.
