Everything we know about The Sims 5: Project Rene

One of the most popular game franchises, The Sims, is cooking up the next big thing! The Sims 5, also called Project Rene, is not exactly the sequel to Sims 4. Instead, it will co-exist with the game as Electronic Arts (EA) continues to update both versions in the future. The Sims 5 was first announced during the Beyond The Sims Summit stream event in October 2022. It was unveiled during its very early stage of development with the name "Project Rene" attached on it. But what does this name mean? Project Rene reflects words like "renewal, renaissance, rebirth" and these represent the developer's renewed commitment to The Sims.

Since The Sims 5 is in its early stages, the developers did not pinpoint a specific release date or period for the highly-anticipated game. The only timeframe given is that The Sims 5 is "years out" and it is likely not going to be released this year.

The undisclosed release date may be a bummer to some of us. But to cheer things up, The Sims 5 is confirmed to be free-to-play! Following the steps of its predecessor, The Sims 4, The Sims 5 will be available for everyone to grab! Alongside the free perks, EA will also continue its line of paid downloadable content (DLC) such as expansion packs and kits.

"We want you to be able to play wherever you want," Pearson stated in the Beyond The Sims Summit stream event.

It is basically confirmed that The Sims 5, Project Rene, will be available on mobile. During the stream, it is stated that the devs were experimenting with ways to make The Sims 5 available across different devices. The video showcased the Build Mode on mobile as a demonstration. It was later unveiled that EA plans to make it so you can play The Sims on a PC and continue where you left off on a mobile device. We also expect The Sims 5 to be available on consoles.

The stream also teased the community with what the new Build Mode is going to be like. "We begin with the ability to change not only patterns and colors but also the shapes of the objects that you will be using when you build and decorate in game."

The devs will be focusing to push the limits to flexibility in The Sims 5. "We are experimenting with what's worked and where we can push further to offer more flexibility than ever before."
