It’s official! HBO confirmed today that the network has greenlit The Last of Us season 2 after two successful episodes.
The Last of Us television show debuted on HBO on January 15 and is sweeping the nation. Episodes one and two set the stage for a faithful adaptation of the beloved Naughty Dog post-apocalyptic survival game. After just two weeks and two well-received episodes, HBO announced The Last of Us season 2 is in the works.

The Last of Us renewed for Season 2
Fans of the first two episodes can rejoice, knowing there will be more of The Last of Us when season one wraps after episode nine. Today, the official The Last of Us Twitter account tweeted the news.
“The journey continues. #TheLastOfUs will return for another season on @HBOMax,” the tweet reads.
According to HBO, 4.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the series premiere, making it the second-biggest for HBO since 2010. The second episode brought in 5.7 million viewers. Furthermore, The Last of Us currently holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96% audience score. The Last of Us' remarkable viewership figures and overwhelmingly positive reception led HBO to green light a season 2.

What can I expect in the next season?
We’ve already been introduced to series mainstays Joel and Ellie, played respectively by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have indicated the first season will depict the entire first game across nine episodes. For season 2, perhaps we will see the events of The Last of Us 2. One thing is for sure; fans can expect more infected and video game storylines to play out next season.
The first season still has seven more episodes, with the season finale expected to air on March 12, 2023.
