Here’s the official first look at the Nintendo Switch 2! The video kicks off with the classic blue and red Joy-Cons being slid off the original Nintendo Switch. Then, the screen size of the handheld console expands!
The transformation into the Nintendo Switch 2 continues, revealing features like a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C port, kickstand, and even the Joy-Cons attaching to the device through a different method instead of sliding on. There's also a bit where the Joy-Cons appear to be zooming and gliding on a surface much like a mouse.
Near the end of the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer, we can also see Mario Kart gameplay and the confirmation that the Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible with Nintendo Switch games.

Nintendo Switch 2 release date
The release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 is sometime in 2025, according to the official website for the handheld console. The exact date has yet to be revealed. However, we do know that there's an upcoming Nintendo Direct featuring the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2. This event will showcase an even closer look at the console!
Folks who cannot wait for the Nintendo Switch 2's arrival can, however, register for a chance to attend one of the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events. These events let people get hands-on experience with the device! Registration begins on Jan. 17 at 12 p.m. PT.
