Alongside the release date, the PSN leak also included a brand-new trailer for the game. The trailer showcases a fresh look at the game. Unlike previous entries, Delta will not be based on Konami's in-house Fox Engine, choosing Unreal Engine 5 instead.

The trailer kicks off with a classic Snake takedown, while the voiceover implies the compound is under intensive security in expectance of exactly such a break-in. From there, the game turns the nostalgia up with music taken straight out of the original's trailer.

With the original story being followed nearly beat for beat, details like Snake's backstory will likely be less important than how well the game plays. And the trailer focuses on that brilliantly, showing us brief glimpses of what looks like gameplay combined with high-detail set pieces that showcase its graphical quality.

Snake versus monkey returns in Delta?

Back in 2004, the PlayStation version of Metal Gear Solid featured a crossover with Sony's Ape Escape series. The mini-game featured Naked Snake, with banana camouflage, deployed to three locations across the main campaign to capture a group of mayhem-causing monkeys. Since the minigame was designed to entertain players of all ages, Snake only uses the "Monkey Shaker" and stun grenades to immobilize the apes. Bringing back this mini-game could be just the right amount of whimsy that Delta needs.

PlayStation State of Play on the horizon?

The timing of this leak lines up nicely with the now-annual PlayStation State of Play event in February. According to recent reports, the next State of Play is scheduled for next week, so Snake could be making his way onto our screens very soon.

With the leaked release date approaching quickly, buzz for Metal Gear Solid's return is building up. For fans, both new and old, this could be one of the year's most exciting releases. Stick around on esports.gg for more news and updates.
