Here is what you need to know about the Hytale Update 2 patch notes, including the addition of new magic, balance changes, and more.

Hytale received a pre-release of Update 2 content for players to check out. The update is expected to roll out this weekend, bringing in some much-needed bug fixes and improvements in the game. While waiting for the official patch, players can access it early through a separate build in the launcher.

Here is everything you need to know about Hytale Update 2 and how you can access the pre-release build.

How to play Hytale Update 2 using the pre-release build?

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can play Hytale 2 with the Update 2 content before it officially releases for the main game:

  • Open the Hytale launcher app
  • Click on the cog icon to open up the settings menu
  • In the Patchline section, change the “release” option to “pre-release.”
  • Head back to the main launcher menu
  • Click the Install button and wait for the process complete
  • Launch the game

Keep in mind that this is a separate build of Hytale. If you want to head back to the original version, you can repeat the process but change it back to the “release” Patchline.

Here is a look at the Hytale Update 2 content, as revealed by the founder of Hypixel Studios, Simon, on X.

Cosmetics and customization

  • New mask face accessories (available for all editions)
  • Armor slot visibility toggle (host-enforced for PvP/immersion)
  • New mouth variants: Vampire, Cute, Orc (all editions)
  • Berserker haircut tiling fixed
  • Updated haircuts, cape animations, petals & cloth visuals

One of the most notable additions to the Hytale Update 2 patch is the toggle option for armor visibility. This is one of the most-requested features in the game, and it’s finally coming in the upcoming update.

There are also new cosmetics and customization tweaks. Players can access this new range of cosmetics, regardless of the edition of the game they own. On top of that, some cosmetic animations and visuals are also updated, along with a bug fix for the Berserker haircut.

Gameplay and balance

  • New magic! Necromancy grimoire! Drops from Skeleton Praetorian, lets you raise up to 5 skeletal minions from bone piles (5-min duration or until the summoner dies)
  • Adamantite now requires a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe
  • Pickaxe progression reworked: mining speed now scales with pickaxe quality
  • Faster rail karts (still not great, but faster!)
  • Tower exploit fixed (NPCs can now throw rocks at players)
  • Buffed polar bears and multiple skeleton types
  • All crops can now be placed to produce in the world
  • Missing decorative light blocks added to the furniture bench
  • Adjusted hide drops (Light → Medium for some NPCs like cows)
  • Added permission for world map teleporting
  • Magma Rhino Toad attack updates (…maybe accidental buff)

For the gameplay and balance section, Hytale Update 2 will implement a new type of magic item called the Necromancy Grimoire. This magic allows you to summon up to five skeletal minions. You can acquire this book as loot drops from Skeleton Praetorian.

Another notable change is the adjustment to the Adamantite, which now requires a Thorium or Cobalt-tier pickaxe to mine. Speaking of Pixaxes, the update will also make adjustments to this tool, improving its mining speed based on the quality.

World Generation

  • WorldGen V2 prepared for public documentation (modder support)
  • New Default_Flat & Default_Void templates using WorldGen V2
  • Hub Portal now spawns with V2 flat worldgen (clear weather, limited fog, new worlds only)
  • Major ore placement refactor in all zones
    • More ores, especially in the Devastated Lands underground
    • Requires new chunks in existing worlds
  • Zone 1 dungeon environment fixes + new environment fixes (you might hear new soundtracks)

A new type of WorldGen system will be implemented in Hytale Update 2. The new system will adjust the spawn rate of ores in the game. However, keep in mind that these do not affect the chunks that you already loaded before the update. This means you will have to explore new chunks to see the updates.

Farming

  • Eternal crops no longer break from weapon damage
  • Increased tilled soil lifetime
  • Fixed soil decay under fully grown crops
  • Some quality-of-life improvements relating to crop farming will be added to Hytale Update 2. Eternal crops will no longer break if you attack them using a weapon. This prevents annoying moments where you accidentally hit a crop and ruin your progress.

Another much-needed change to farming is that tilted soil will now degrade more slowly. This means you won’t have to frequently water your plants to speed up their growth.

UI / UX

  • Improved editor block tooltips
  • Clothing color tooltips added
  • Better hotbar active-slot contrast (diamond indicator, helpful in Howling Sands)
  • Memory categories sorted alphabetically
  • Scripted Brush QoL improvements
  • Inventory interaction updates (e.g., new keybind to pull all items from chests)
  • Optional FPS counter overlay
  • Player markers added to the compass
  • Ophidiophobia accessibility mode

The UI/UX changes are mostly adjustments. Ophidiophobia refers to the fear of snakes, so if that's you, definitely consider turning this toggle on.

Audio

  • Added basic Rex sounds + additional audio fixes

Rex mobs get more basic sound effects. On top of that, there will also be audio fixes to make the sound more immersive.

Bug Fixes, Tech & Stability

  • Server self-updater
  • Shadow improvements
  • Pick block works when the hotbar is full
  • Asset editor documentation fixed
  • Mantling fixes
  • Keybind persistence fixed
  • Improved weather transitions (still not perfect, but smoother)
  • Teleporter offset fixed
  • Rail karts now consume & place correctly
  • Bed respawn in unloaded chunks fixed
  • Food particle tint updates
  • Major server stability, validation, ECS, localization & timeout improvements

A lot of bugfixes are being implemented in the game. Some of these fixes address server issues and rendering problems while playing the game.
