Super Earth swears it’s telling the truth.
Helldivers 2 players noticed an additional option in the Ship Module section of the game called the catalog expansion. This mystery item would add “new stratagem permits to the ship management terminal for purchase.” After some initial confusion from players online, Arrowhead responded completely in character.
Arrowhead responds in-universe
In response to this potentially leaked future update, Arrowhead released a statement from the Super Earth government in the official Discord.
“ALERT: ROGUE ITEM DETECTED. The Ministry of Truth has confirmation that a rogue item called the “catalog expansion” is temporarily visible in the Ship Management menu and, in accordance with regulations, we instruct all Helldivers to avoid this rogue item until further notice. The Ministry of Truth cannot confirm the reliability or safety of this item, nor can they confirm its origin.”
Translating this lore speak, Arrowhead has confirmed that this is a bug (which has since been fixed in patch 01.000.202). However, it may still hint at more expansions for both the ships and stratagems in the near future.
The in-univese language of the discord message confused a fair amount of players. They thought that maybe it was another case of Super Earth gaslighting and that the catalog expansion was added intentionall. However, since it a patch removed it, we're certain that the catalog expansion in Helldivers 2 was simply a bug.
Players try buying the Helldivers 2 catalog expansion anyway
Of course, some cheeky Helldivers immediately got onboard their ships to try and purchase the bugged item. Disappointingly, the item did nothing. This seems to confirm that it was a bug not meant to be seen by players just yet.
Despite the catalog expansion being a whole lot of nothing, players still believe that this may be hinting at more stratagem releases in the near future. With the playerbase still going strong and Arrowhead constantly adding new items (like the Democratic Detonation Warbond), it seems likely that new stratagems will drop sooner than later.
In the meantime, players can get back to fighting the bugs (ignoring this one) and the bots! Anyone who hesitates will be reported to the nearest Democracy Officer.
