Pablo Sanchez and others are back for the Backyard Baseball reboot.
If you are a child of the '90s or early 2000s, then you likely have played the 1997 title, Backyard Baseball. Filled with a cast of iconic and diverse characters, this title was a mainstay in the earlier years of PC gaming and became an instant cult classic. And now, nearly 30 years later, Backyard Baseball is back again under the name of Backyard Sports. Here's everything we know so far.
Backyard Baseball returns as Backyard Sports
The return of Backyard Baseball was confirmed in a report from Sports Illustrated that was released simultaneously with the genesis of a social account for the new game, @_BackyardSports. From the teaser trailer released on social media, fans can already see some familiar faces like Pablo Sanchez and others who will return in the reboot. Seeing these characters with modern animation has me, and I'm, sure many other fans, eager to see what the modern reboot will look and feel like.
It's also unclear if the new game will be solely baseball-focused. or if the change to "Sports" means that we can expect the playground kids to be suiting up for other games like soccer, basketball, or football. Developers haven't given us much to work with, outside of promises to preserve the look and feel of the original.
The SI report quoted Chris Walters of Playground Productions saying, “We're taking great care to preserve the look and feel that made the original games so special while updating them with modern features and gameplay that today's audience expects..."
