Will this be a game-changer?
Video Games companies are some of the biggest revenue generators in the world today with some of the biggest companies posting billions of dollars in revenues. And it seems one of the world’s richest man - Elon Musk - is all set to enter the fray with his very own AI-powered Gaming studio.
The social media announcement was in response to a tweet by Dogecoin founder Shibetoshi Nakamoto. Nakamoto’s tweet was directed towards gamers and how they have become accepting of game companies’ practices. Elon Musk tweeted that xAI is going to start an AI game company ‘to make games great again’.

There’s still no information about what kind of games the studio would develop nor any timeline for the same. Elon Musk’s political views lean Republican as we could see from his strong support for President Donald Trump. His tweet ends with ‘Make Games Great again’ which is a clear reference to Trump’s MAGA slogan from several years.
One of the important talking points for XAI’s game studio development is to ensure that game development stays focused on video games and less on various political views and ideologies. Earlier in October this year, Elon Musk highlighted some of the problems with existing video games. He mentioned how imposing certain ideas on video gamers kills the art of video games and tries to impose political views on the same.
"Make Video Games Great Again! The problem with the DEI and the woke mind virus is that it kills the art. When you see something that's forcibly imposed on a game, it kills the art. It kicks you out of the story, because you feel you're bring lectured. Let me just enjoy my video games!"
Despite being one of the richest men in the world, Elon Musk plays video games and is one of the best players in the world in Diablo 4. He ranks #19 in Diablo. He also publicly streams video games, talking about Cyberpunk 2077 including receiving criticism for his Elden Ring builds. Gamers built some of the biggest game studios and the community is visibly excited about xAI possibly opening up a game studio.
Most of the big game studios have Saudi or Chinese ownership, which would make xAI a company whose ownership is American. The use of xAI to develop games is significant. It’s still unclear whether the use of xAI means using AI to write code or otherwise. There's no clarity on the use of AI and how it will supplement the game development efforts.
