Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home Game of the Year, among many other accolades, after breaking records at The Game Awards 2025.
The Game Awards 2025 just concluded, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was crowned the Game of the Year. Moreover, the French title also made its mark in TGA history by breaking multiple records.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 wins Game of the Year
As many expected, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took the biggest honor in the event: the Game of the Year award. Nicolas Doucet, the French director and producer of last year's GOTY winner Astro Bot, presented the award to Sandfall Interactive.
Guillaume Broche gave the speech to celebrate the win.
Thank you so much. You changed our lives. You changed the studio's life and it's really wonderful. Thank you, and 'for those who come after.'
Broche was full of gratitude in his acceptance speech. During it, he also announced that new content is coming to the game as a thank you. This includes an expansion and a balance update.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the game with the most wins and nominations in Game Awards history
CO:E33's Game of the Year win was a satisfying cap to a very eventful and successful night for Sandfall Interactive.
With 13 nominations and 9 awards won, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became the game with the most nominations and wins in Game Awards history. This year, the second most-nominated titles were Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yōtei with seven nominations apiece.
Moreover, three of its cast (Charlie Cox as Gustave, Jennifer English as Maelle, and Ben Starr as Verso) were all nominated for Best Performance. English was awarded the accolade.
They are the second game to receive three nominations in a single category since 2016. That year, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End became the first to do so, with Nolan North, Troy Baker, and Emily Rose for their performances as Nathan Drake, Sam Drake, and Elena Fisher, respectively. Overwatch won GOTY in 2016.
