Esports.gg sat down with players SofyAnn and Milly to talk about the impact of The Milk Cup and how to overcome setbacks.
The Milk Cup Finals tournament is the culmination of three qualifier events, where only the top Fortnite teams earned a place in the competition. Happening at the heart of LA Comic Con, the Milk Cup Finals features a $250,000 prize pool and celebrates women in the esports and gaming space. Ahead of the matches, esports.gg met up with SofyAnn and Milly, the runner-ups of The Milk Cup Qualifier 2, to chat about the significance of the circuit and more.
"There's always going to be setbacks. There's always going to be people who are doubting your abilities. But you just have to be able to put the negativity aside and push yourself. Always believe in yourself. If you really want to do it, then you can make it happen."

According to the Gonna Need Milk campaign, which is one of the key parties responsible for The Milk Cup circuit, women make up almost 50% of the gaming community. However, only about 5% of them are competitive players. Therefore, Gonna Need Milk worked alongside Women of the eRena (WOTE), Rebekah “ThePeachCobbler” Cannon, and Raidiant to level the playing field and ultimately fuel change.
In their interview with esports.gg, SofyAnn and Milly shared how The Milk Cup circuit is a great chance to showcase woman gamers and inspire others. Even though the team's third couldn't make it, the final at LA Comic Con is still an opportunity for them to show how they can break through even the toughest setbacks by strategizing and working together.
SofyAnn then shared when it all began for her. "About two years ago, I started competing through eFuse and all the different girl tournaments and online tournaments as well," she said, adding that scrims helped push her to rapidly improve. She noted that she even participated in one of the first eFuse and WOTE Fortnite tournaments thanks to seeing a post about it on social media.
Meanwhile, Milly first heard about these opportunities through a Discord server. "There was a girl I met in a scrim server," she said. "She hosted a scrim, and I ended up winning."
After not doing too well in The Milk Cup Qualifier 1, SofyAnn reached out to Milly, and they eventually formed a trio with Yani. They went on to take home the silver in Qualifier 2.

Although Yani couldn’t make it to The Milk Cup Finals, SofyAnn and Milly revealed that they would still do their best. "We don't have another third looking for the Surge or being able to fight with us. It's just two of us, so it's a lot of stuff we have to cover to compensate for not having an extra person," Milly said.
SofyAnn then added, "But I think we can overcome it. We're both really good players and we can adapt."
The duo also talked about the Fortnite meta going into The Milk Cup's circuit, noting how the slower gameplay now gives them an advantage after having adjusted to not having Nitro for a while.
"At the same time, though, without Nitro, it makes the game more skillful," SofyAnn continued. "You have to think a lot more about it. So I think it's good for us that it was taken out. And we still have Fizz for movement in the game."
As for parting words, Milly said she hopes to make her supporters proud.
"There's always going to be setbacks. There's always going to be people who are doubting your abilities. But you just have to be able to put the negativity aside and push yourself," SofyAnn added. "Always believe in yourself. If you really want to do it, then you can make it happen."
