Is this new Fortnite ranked mode what many players have been calling for?

Fortnite’s Twitter account just released a teaser for a new ranked mode. The 20-second trailer did not reveal much, but it seems something is in the works ahead of Fortnite’s next season. Some believe this could be a teaser for the rumored driving game mode or a potential Arena Mode rework.

Here’s what we know so far about Fortnite’s new ranked mode.

“A new way to grab the Victory Royale is coming….”

Reputable leakers across the Fortnite scene instantly theorized this was a trailer for the game’s new driving mode. However, nothing in the teaser explicitly pointed toward that.

Based on the wording in Fortnite’s tweet, a ranked Fortnite driving mode could be a reasonable assumption. Earning Victory Royales in the game has always boiled down to being the last player or team standing in a Zero Build or classic Battle Royale match.

A driving mode could be a new way to grab a Victory Royale. Additionally, the line “Will you rise through the ranks?” confirms this is a ranked mode but not necessarily a driving mode.

Fortnite ranked mode divisions are shown in the brief trailer; could this be an Arena Mode overhaul?

While leakers have pointed toward this being a never-before-seen game mode, others have different theories. Competitive Fortnite players have long been campaigning for an Arena Mode overhaul.

With the recent success of Call of Duty’s ranked multiplayer and Warzone 2.0 playlists, could this Fortnite ranked mode teaser be a direct response? Whatever the case, the trailer depicted eight divisions, two less than the current Arena Mode system.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the primary Fortnite Twitter account and competitive Fortnite account tweeted out the trailer. Shortly after posting the tweet, Fortnite's competitive Twitter account responded to community member BoopNL with the shifty eyes emoji. This followed his tweet regarding an official Fortnite ranked mode.

The new Fortnite season is expected to launch on June 9. It’s safe to presume no additional details will emerge before the end of Chapter 4 Season 2.
