MrSavage talks Fortnite, orgs leaving the game and who he’d SNAKE his duo for…

Take a look into the world of competitive Fortnite player, MrSavage.

With the Red Bull Gaming LAN event happening this weekend, I had the luxury of sitting down with none other than Martin "MrSavage" Foss Andersen. The Nordic Fortnite pro was able to give me insight into his life and just how it feels to be able to travel the world to compete. Oh... and he also told me who he would snake his duo for.

MrSavage, easily one of the nicest and most professional people within the Fortnite community, breaks down what it feels like to travel for Fortnite.

The life of MrSavage: Traveling the world to compete in Fortnite tournaments

Every gamer's dream is to compete at a professional level. With Covid restrictions being in the past, more and more events are starting to pop up. In fact, most of these competitors are just now getting to compete in their first-ever in-person events.

But for MrSavage, traveling to play Fortnite has been a part of his life since before the pandemic.

"It's great man. It is truly amazing," said MrSavage. "Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. It makes me super happy to do this as a career."

MrSavage has been seen competing in LANs since the World Cup days, certifying him as one of the OGs in Fortnite.

But just because he was able to travel, does not mean it was always easy.

"I had to make a lot of sacrifices earlier in my career to be in this place," said MrSavage. "That is how I got to where I am at now."

The competitor was just seen at DreamHack Dallas playing in the $250,000 Zero Build Duos event.

But what got MrSavage wanting to pursue competitive gaming?

We all have to start somewhere. To the majority, MrSavage may seem like he has it all right now, but it was not always this way.

"I always competed with my older brother when we played video games," said MrSavage. "Minecraft Hunger Games and CS:GO."

It seems like the recipe for success for a lot of these younger gamers is to have an older sibling that gets them into gaming.

"And then my brother showed me Fortnite."

That was when it all changed for MrSavage. How could he have ever known that a single video game would have such a large impact on his life?

"I wanted to improve at the game every time I played. I was obsessed. The success just kind of happened from there."

The determination was enough alone to bring MrSavage to the spot he stands in now, solidifying himself as one of the greats in competitive Fortnite and gaming.

MrSavage discusses orgs leaving Fortnite, who he'd snake his duo for and more...

The popular route taken by orgs recently has been to leave Fortnite altogether. With teams such as NRG, TNA and more evacuating the scene, it makes you wonder what the game's future will hold.

"It's the way that Fortnite is running their tournaments that is turning everyone away," said MrSavage. "Other games like Rocket League and more are doing these to include orgs."

The support that many of these orgs held for the Fortnite competitive scene never went unnoticed, so it is extremely difficult to have to watch them leave the game behind.

"They are only really able to sign people that do content now."

THE SNAKENING BEGINS: MrSavage discusses who he would snake his duo for if he was FORCED to

A common trend in the Fortnite scene is to snake your teammate. Snaking someone is dropping them, usually the last second before a tournament, for someone else. Sometimes this helps the player, sometimes it doesn't, but it does not stop it from happening.

So I asked MrSavage who he would snake his duo for if he was FORCED to.

"Honestly... probably Veno," said MrSavage. "He literally just won FNCS."

Since the Fortnite Invitational back in November of 2022, Veno has been one of the most talked about players within the competitive Fortnite scene.

"He's overall just a very well-rounded and great player."

MrSavage talks the past: What he would bring back in Fortnite if he had the chance

Fortnite has been around since 2017, so a lot of memorable moments have already passed us. Being around since the beginning, MrSavage discussed just what he could bring back in Fortnite if he were to choose.

"I think either Tilted Towers or the Pump Shotgun," said MrSavage. "Actually, the World Cup."

MrSavage competed in the Fortnite World Cup back in 2019 in both Duos and Solos.

"I am still mad at how I played, so I would love to redeem myself."

But if there was another World Cup, just where would it be hosted?

"If we had another World Cup, I would love for it to be hosted in Tokyo," said MrSavage. "I love Japan."

With more and more Fortnite events popping up, we can only hope a wish like MrSavage's comes true.

Advice for those trying to pursue gaming as a career

Making gaming your full-time career is more and more in-reach these days. With so many different avenues, there are a lot of opportunities for people to pursue. MrSavage wanted to give his advice on the path.

"Be patient and always work hard," said MrSavage. "Always be honest with yourself. Don't blame your teammates and learn to grow from your mistakes. Watch how all the other pros play."
