From college student to full-time Fortnite player; Archie shares his story and what has made him successful

“It is never easy trying to be the best in the world at something, but ultimately, those who make it in this scene are those who work the hardest.”

Who wouldn't want to game every day for their job? I sat down with Archie, a full-time Fortnite streamer, who shared his adventures of traveling the world to play video games and create content while talking about how you too could make it in the gaming industry.

Here is Archie's story.

From World of Warcraft to CS:GO, Archie's gaming history is expansive, but Fortnite was his golden ticket

Every gamer has one game that flourishes their love for the industry. For Archie, this specific game was World of Warcraft.

"Way back in the day, when I was 10 or 11, I used to play a lot of World of Warcraft", said Archie. "I never really understood the game, but the competitive aspect of leveling up and getting the best character kept me enthralled."

Archie took this love and used it to fuel himself. He worked hard so he could save up and eventually bought his first gaming PC at age 15.

"This this moved to playing CS:GO", said Archie. "I enjoyed playing these games so much that I bought a gaming PC when I was 15."

At the time, gaming was just a hobby for Archie. He did not stream or make content, and he did not compete at a professional level. In fact, Fortnite was not even a game yet.

"Fortnite didn't get released until I went to University", explained Archie. "I first started playing when a mate from the gym asked me for a few games. Crazy how that led to me being a full-time streamer today."

Archie is currently signed with Tundra esports and competes in various Fortnite tournaments across the regular mode and Zero Build mode. The streamer has over 100,000 followers across all platforms, Twitch being his highest.

Gaming was not his first career choice. Before streaming, Archie was a full-time student studying math

The dream for most gamers is to create a career centered around gaming and content creation. With how lavishing this lifestyle sounds, it does not come to sound without hard work. Making a name for yourself in this field is not easy.

Archie always has had an ambition when it comes to his career. He was implicit about making sure whatever he did ended up being a success.

"I have always had a passion for making money", said Archie. "My initial plan was to get a big city job up in London and work my way up. It wasn't until my third year at the University that my streaming career blew up that I started to consider gaming full-time."

Not only has his passion turned into a career, but Archie has also been able to travel the world because of it.

"It is nice to be able to go compete at tournaments and try some in-real-life variety streaming in places around the world."

"The traveling aspect of my job is crazy", said Archie. "It is nice to be able to go compete at tournaments and try some in-real-life variety streaming in places around the world."

Archie is currently working on a brand new YouTube series titled "Rate my Pub", where he travels to different bars, giving them ratings based on their beer selections.

"I love exploring new bars, clubs and speaking to people, so this suits me fantastically. Just this year I have been to Sweden twice, Germany, Paris, Atlanta, San Diego and Copenhagen, all for work!".

With gaming making a return to in-person events, Archie expects to travel more than he ever has in 2023.

Archie's success has not come easy. To make a career in this industry, you must be determined and willing to work hard!

Becoming a professional gamer is not something that just happens overnight. People have to be dedicated enough to put in hours of work each day, usually while having another job or being full-time students.

I asked Archie what his best advice was for someone looking to create a career path in the gaming industry.

"If you want to be a professional gamer you need to put in enough time to outwork the competition", said Archie. "It is never easy trying to be the best in the world at something, but ultimately, those who make it in this scene are those who work the hardest."

Always make sure you are putting your utmost best effort into your passions. Those who succeed are the ones who never give up.
