The Fortnite World Cup legend has retired.

Fortnite Duo World Cup Champion and two-time Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) winner David “Aqua” Wang has retired. The news arrived unexpectedly on September 3, following a lengthy hiatus from competitive gameplay. The Fortnite legend has called it quits despite raking over $1 million in career earnings.

Aqua retires from Fortnite with no reason given

Aqua took to X with the brief announcement, stating, “Quit @FNCompetitive.” While he did not elaborate on the cause, Aqua has not competed in a Fortnite tournament since FNCS Major 3 on July 27.

After four years of relative dominance, Aqua has officially retired from competitive Fortnite.

Aqua has battled with hand pains for some time so these issues may have caught up to him, and extended breaks from Fortnite are no longer an option. Otherwise, he has been critical of Epic Games' decision to remove the Sipon mechanic. Perhaps he could have reached his limit and decided he was no longer passionate about Fortnite.

Whatever the case may be, Aqua will go down in history as one of the best players in Fortnite history.

Four years of dominance and a career to be remembered

The Fortnite veteran is one of the few players to stick with the game long-term and maintain success. He hit his stride ahead of the Fortnite World Cup. Aqua proceeded to qualify for the Duos and Solo World Cup Finals.

Alongside his then-duo partner Emil “Nyhrox” Bergquist Pedersen, the two shocked the world and earned the inaugural and only Fortnite World Cup Duos Championship. Aqua and Nyhrox cashed a $1.5 million payday each and forever etched themselves in the Fortnite history books.

Aqua’s tirade in Fortnite's European scene did not end there. The Austrian competitor went on to qualify for eight FNCS Grand Finals, winning two. His last FNCS triumph came alongside rising star Harry “Veno” Pearson in Chapter 3 Season 2.

Beyond his competitive accolades, Aqua is among the best players to succeed online and on LAN. He also revolutionized playing the high ground–a strategy many players still utilize today.

After his announcement, many fellow players flooded X with support and appreciation for Aqua. He will not be forgotten.
