Fortnite is adding a Quints game mode, allowing up to five-player teams to queue into matches. Here’s what you should know!

A new game mode called Fortnite Quints is coming to the game this week alongside the game's South Park update. This is a first for Fortnite, following years where only up to four players could compete in the build-enabled Battle Royale or Zero Build.

It may not affect everyone, but some players will use this option to add the odd man out to the team for some legitimate Fortnite action. Here's everything you need to know!

What is Fortnite's "Quints" game mode?

For the first time ever on Friday, Jan. 9, Fortnite will debut a new game mode called Quints. This will allow teams of up to five players to queue into Battle Royale or Zero Build, for a total of 20 teams per match. This option leaked several months ago, and Epic has chosen to launch it alongside the South Park collab.

While nothing ground-breaking, Quints will be a massive change for groups of friends who were previously limited to four-player Fortnite Squads. We've all been there: you and your friends want to win some games together, but a fifth friend either forces someone out of the group or has to wait for a spot to open. That will no longer be an issue, at least for a limited time.

Regarding the game mode itself, it will be interesting to see whether the dynamics change with five-player teams.

How long will the five-player mode stick around?

Unfortunately, Epic Games has announced that Quints will be a temporary game mode. Following its debut on Jan. 9, it will remain available until Thursday, Feb. 8. It is worth noting that Epic has previously extended game modes in response to positive community feedback.

The ultra-popular Blitz Royale game mode was initially limited-time (LTM), but Epic Games announced several extensions before making it permanent. It's possible that Fortnite's Quints game mode could follow a similar path, but only time will tell.

Lastly, you may want to keep an eye out for Quints-related Quests. Epic Games often uses XP and cosmetic rewards to increase player counts in new game modes. Although that's only speculation, it may be worth queuing up at Quints even if you have no desire to play with four teammates.
