Tim Sweeney (Epic Games CEO) revealed that Fortnite can now hold 200 players in a lobby.

Yes, you read the title right. Fortnite could potentially be getting 200-player lobbies. Just like Warzone, the popular Battle Royale could be seeing a rise in players per lobby, as Fortnite is hinting at 200-player lobbies becoming a thing.

What exactly would a 200-player lobby in Fortnite look like, though?

Epic Games CEO hints at 200-player lobbies in Fortnite

In a recent interview between Matthew Ball and Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, Sweeney claimed that 200-player lobbies are now possible in Fortnite.

This means that at one point, the idea of 200 players dropping off the Battle Bus in one game was nothing more than a dream. Now, though, it seems like Epic Games has the capability of making this a reality.

"At the time we launched it (Fortnite), we couldn’t make 200 players work on a server," said Sweeney when asked why Fortnite was only 100 players. "Computers in the data center were just too slow.”

Other Battle Royales, such as Warzone, have been a success with high-player lobbies. So, what does this mean? Will Fortnite implement 200-player lobbies? Or is this all just them showing off how much better their technology is now?

Will Fortnite ever have 200-player lobbies?

While 200-player lobbies would be a bit much within the regular Battle Royale mode in Fortnite, there is a solid chance we could see the increase in players come to Zero Build.

We could also see Fortnite just creating its own game mode that features 200 players in a lobby. This seems like the more likely choice.

The fact of the matter is, that builds in Fortnite utilize quite a bit of hardware. Especially in the competitive scene, there is already a large number of complaints revolving around server lags because of how many people end up staying alive during the endgame.

For Fortnite to actually run 200-player lobbies and still be smooth, the game would have to only do so in Zero Build modes or non-competitive game modes.

Fortnite, though, in the past, has had some pretty unique game modes. A 200-player lobby mode would not be out of the game's realm, and we do know they have the capability of making it happen now.
