Weapon Modifications explained
Weapon mods are the newest addition to Fortnite via the Chapter 5 patch notes. Players can now pick up weapons with attachments already on them. You can also head to a Vault, where you can modify your weapon using a Mode Bench in exchange for gold Bars.
Here are the current weapon modifications you can apply to your weapons in Fortnite Chapter 5:
- Magazine
- Scope
- Laser
- Suppressor
Furthermore, picking up weapons higher than Rare will grant you one or more attachments:
- Uncommon = one attachment
- Rare = two attachments
- Epic/Legendary = three attachments
- Mythic = four attachments
Society Medallions explained
The newly introduced Society Medallions gameplay element deserves a separate section. These Medallions grant a Shield generation, but you can only loot them from Boss characters or other players who have eliminated those Boss characters.
Once you possess a Society Medallion, your Shield will regenerate with each tick. However, be cautious when you have one, as you will appear on the map for all players to see your location. The more you have, the more precise the radius around you.

All additional new mechanics in Fortnite Chapter 5 patch notes
Wall running and kicking
Fortnite now offers a wall running and kicking mechanic, making for seamless movement across the map and structures.
Healing while moving
Players can say goodbye to waiting ten seconds for a Medkit to heal their HP. Chapter 5 has introduced a mechanic where you can move while popping a Medkit, Shield Potion, and Mini Shield Potions.
Your health and Shield will be restored progressively, and you can no longer cancel out of the animation with movement.
Revive and Reboot Van overhaul
Epic changed how revivals and reboots work in Chapter 5, Season 1. Before, you would have to hard reset after the person you were reviving moved away from you. Now, the progress you made will slowly degrade but not disappear entirely.
This mechanic also applies to reboots, meaning you can move away and return to the Reboot Van and slowly lose the progress you have made. The progress also transfers to any other team. If you reboot and another team eliminates you, they can pick up your progress to bring their teammates back.
