The Joker joins MultiVersus: Gameplay breakdown

The Joker was revealed as a new MultiVersus character. The personality of this villain adds a specific atmosphere to the game: something of unstoppable energy and limitless pranks. The Joker in MultiVersus is a mighty fighter with interesting gameplay mechanics.

The developers teased this reveal with some clues on the MultiVersus social media account.

Then, without keeping this a secret for too long, MultiVersus confirmed the Joker being the newest playable character. The reveal trailer features Batman, ready to fight his nemesis. We also can see other MultiVersus characters who apparently fell victims of the Joker: Bugs Bunny, Shaggy, and Arya Stark. The  Joker has even shown his weapon in the trailer, a rocket launcher.

The character is obviously a ranged archetype. The Joker uses three types of attacks.

Send in the Clowns! — It's an official trailer that highlights the Joker’s gameplay. We can see here different tools the character uses during platformer fights. For example, he hits Jake the Dog with an extendable fist, a crowbar, and a fake pistol to then launch the opponent with a rocket.

The Joker’s projectiles include some weird screams. His recovery is a dangerous balloon. His down attacks come with a jumping pogo stick. In the air, Joker attacks opponents with his fancy walking stick.

In the trailer, Joker forms a team with Harley Queen and Marvin the Martian. It seems like he likes evil teammates.

Some very attentive viewers have even noticed new MultiVersus characters leaked in the Joker's trailer as well: The Powerpuff Girls.

The character joins the MultiVersus roster with the full release of this platformer fighting game on May 28, 2024.

MultiVersus is published by Warner Bros. Games, and the Joker is part of the DC Universe, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. It’s quite logical to expect the character to be present in other games, including fighters.

Warner Bros. Games also has NetherRealm Studios under its umbrella, a company behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice.
