MultiVersus’ online services will shut down on May 30.

MultiVersus, the crossover fighting game from Player First Games and Warner Bros., has announced the shutdown of its online services. While Season 5 launches on Feb. 4, this will be the game's final content update. On May 30 at 9 a.m. PST, all online multiplayer features will be permanently disabled.

After this date, players will no longer be able to access online matchmaking, battle passes, or live events. However, those who log in before the shutdown will still be able to play offline. MultiVersus will also be removed from digital stores, preventing new downloads after the shutdown.

How to play MultiVersus offline after the May 30 shutdown

Although MultiVersus' online features are ending, offline play will still be available. To continue playing after May 30, players can should follow these steps:

  • Log in between Feb. 4 and May 30
  • Install the Season 5 updates

This will create a local save file, allowing access to solo play against A.I. opponents and local multiplayer with up to three friends. Any earned or purchased content will remain accessible in offline mode. However, if players do not log in before May 30, they will lose access to the game entirely.

End of in-game purchases

In preparation for the shutdown, the purchase of Gleamium in MultiVersus has also been disabled as of Jan. 31. However, any remaining in-game currency or character tokens can still be used until the shutdown on May 30. If you haven't redeemed your character tokens, make sure to do so during Season 5.

Reactions to the MultiVersus shutdown

The announcement sparked discussions across the MultiVersus community, with many fans reflecting on the game’s highs and lows. Some pointed to the shift from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 as a major challenge, while others criticized the grind required for unlocking characters. Additionally, the omission of beloved characters like Ben 10, Harry Potter, Godzilla, and Gandalf left some players disappointed. The absence of Scooby-Doo, in particular, felt like a significant oversight to some players.

Despite these concerns, MultiVersus was a unique title that brought together fans of both fighting games and Warner Bros. franchises. While its online era is ending, the ability to play offline ensures that players can continue to enjoy the game locally with friends.
