The early success of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a fighting video game inspired by the iconic Dragon Ball anime. Being associated with a lot of nostalgia and childhood memories, this game was purchased by many fans who couldn't wait for the launch. The only two versions available before the launch were the Deluxe ($99.99) and the Ultimate ($109.99) one.

And just like that, with 91,0005 players at the same time, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero entered the top 20 of the games with the most players simultaneously in 24 hours - in 16th place, just under EA SPORTS FC 25 and above Baldur's Gate 3 - according to Steamdb. Not only does the game enter at full speed, but also has great reviews on Steam.

The most played fighting game on Steam

Yes, it's true, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero just surpassed Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 as the most-played fight game on Steam. The previous record belonged to Street Fighter 6 - which debuted in June 2023 - and reached 70,540 players simultaneously. Besides that, this is also the most-played Dragon Ball game, since the last recorded belonged to Dragon Ball FighterZ with 44,234 players.

In an interview with Bandai Namco Entertainment (the studio responsible for the game's development), the producer Jun Furutani assured that they "want players to feel the thrill of intense battles as their favorite character from Dragon Ball. Our goal was to create an experience that is both nostalgic and innovative, capturing the essence of the series while introducing fresh, exciting elements".

He added that "the game is designed to be immersive, with dynamic visuals and fluid gameplay that make every fight feel epic and dramatic. We hope that the real-time effects and graphic expressions will allow us to experience a deeper immersion into the characters. We hope that players will share this excitement and joy with each other".
