A clear and detailed explanation of online ranks in this platformer fighting game.

The Brawlhalla ranking system is based on earning Elo points during time-limited online seasons. In addition to this, the game has separate levels for the characters and player accounts. In this article, we explain everything about Brawlhalla ranks and answer some frequently asked questions.

Online Ranked Seasons in Brawlhalla

Whenever you head to the Ranked tab in the main game menu, you can participate in a competitive ranked season. They are never over in Brawlhalla, and the new season starts right after the previous one.

An online season continues in Brawlhalla for around 12-14 weeks. Here are the dates of some previous seasons.

Season
Start Date
End Date
Season 28April 12, 2023July 19, 2023
Season 29July 19, 2023October 18, 2023
Season 30October 18, 2023January 10, 2024
Season 31January 10, 2024April 3, 2024

At the start of a new ranked season, Brawlhalla takes players through ten placement matches. As a result, you will be assigned to one of seven ranks (with some internal tiers).

The game lets players keep their previous ranks on low and intermediate levels (Elo lower than 1,400). High-skilled competitors who reached top tiers in a previous season will be ranked lower thanks to a special formula.

If Elo is over 1,400, the new Elo is equal to 1,400 + (Old Elo – 1,400) / (3 – (3,000 – Old Elo) / 800).

It’s not really necessary to bother with the calculations. Just play the placement matches to the best of your abilities and enjoy the result.

Brawlhalla ranks explained

The ranking system in Brawlhalla has seven tiers. Five of them are divided into sub-tiers.

Valhallan Rank

It’s the highest rank in Brawlhalla. Reach Diamond, win 100+ matches, and be among top players of your region.

Diamond Rank

This rank has no tier division. If you have 2,000+ Elo, you are in Brawlhalla Diamond.

De-ranking happens with a buffer for players — you have a small safety zone after the bottom Elo number of a rank tier before you actually rank down. For example, with Elo 1,086 - 1,129, you are not promoted to Silver, but also, you don’t fall to Bronze. The gaps are visible in the table.

After getting your first Brawlhalla rank, continue playing, and your results will determine whether you earn more points or lose them.

The ranking rules change at the Valhallan level. To get the Brawlhalla Valhallan rank, you need to be in Diamond, win 100 or more matches during the current season, and be among the top players of your region. (It’s Top 150 in US-E and EU; Top 100 in SA; Top 50 in US-W)

Character and account levels

When you play Brawlhalla ranked matches, you earn separate Elo points for your active characters. While your general ranking is universal, the character Elo level still affects your matchmaking to guarantee a better experience with new Legends.

In addition to this, Legends have experience levels, which are not connected to Elo. The more you play, the more experience points you earn. Leveling up brings colors, stances, and Gold. The max level for each Brawlhalla character is 99. Similarly to this, you level up your account while playing any Brawlhalla matches. The max level is 99, and leveling up brings Gold.

Brawlhalla global rankings

How to earn the first rank in Brawlhalla?

You need to take these steps to be ranked in an online season.

  1. Head to the Ranked section in the game menu
  2. Chose solo matches
  3. Complete ten placement matches

The steps should be repeated every new ranked season.

Brawlhalla 2v2 rankings

The game has separate rankings for team matches. The system is actually identical, from Tin to Valhallan. But there is one important rule. You can compete in 2v2 rankings only with someone from your friend lists. Random teammates are not available for this game mode.

How to play casual 1v1 matches?

When you enter the Play section in Brawlhalla, the game recommends starting the Free-for-All mode. It’s a mass fight of four players on one map, which is fun but chaotic and far from being competitive.

To play casual matches but in the 1v1 mode, head to the Experimental section. The developers test some new features here. and you have a high chance of facing a much stronger or much less experienced opponent. But it’s the only place to have Singles without affecting your rank. Strikeout 1v1 is also an interesting option, but you need to switch between characters on each new stock. Joining or creating custom rooms is a good alternative.
