Romanidis, a 20-year-old sim racer who started competing in 2017, won the eROC 2025 tournament in Sydney, Australia. For more context, the eROC event mirrored the physical ROC that featured top drivers from Formula 1, World Endurance Championship, Rallying, and NASCAR.

Michael Romanidis at ROC 2025: From a childhood dream to reality

"The Race of Champions [is] doing a great job putting sim racers in the cars and recognizing that we can kind of do this with proper track time," Romanidis said. "But yeah — it's amazing to be against these guys — in the same venue as them. [It’s] amazing to see names like Sebastian, you know. Just very humbling."

He continued, adding that it was a great honor to be part of the event because it had a long history. Romanidis had also been following Formula 1 scene since 2009.

"[It's] an event I've been watching since I was a kid," he said. "And being part of it is — I think it's gonna sink in [after] a few days, maybe."

Loeb ended up winning ROC 2025, however, Romanidis' entrance to the competition made him G2 Esports' first-ever driver to qualify for a physical ROC event. G2 Esports called this a significant milestone.

The achievement also showcased the growing connection between sim racing and traditional motorsport, opening up new opportunities for virtual drivers who wish to compete alongside racing legends.
