Esports Insider has a change in ownership.

Esports Insider has been sold to new ownership, company’s co-founder, Sam Cooke, announced on social media. He will be leaving to build something new in esports, gaming, and digital entertainment spaces. The company will see a change in direction under the new leadership.

“Sport Global/SBC, the majority owners of ESI & with whom I built it from the beginning, have sold the business and the new owners will take it in a bit of a different direction, focusing on media only."

Sam Cooke

Esports Insider sold to focus on media

Cooke co-founded Esports Insider and has been leading the charge for the past nine years. It started as a news website before expanding into hosting business-focused media and events. The regular Esports Insider conferences saw some of the biggest names in the esports industry in attendance discussing various things affecting the industry.

The announcement does not reveal the identity of the new buyers just yet. There’s also no information about the amount of stake sold to the new owners and whether Sports Global/SBC still has any equity left. However, there will be a change in direction for the company as they will focus more on media, as per Cooke’s LinkedIn post

Esports Insider ran more than 30 events over the past few years. Many of them were in Europe, but there were also events in the U.S., Singapore, and South Korea. They also published the only print magazine centered around esports business. With 14 editions to its name, it paved the way for something unique in the business of esports.

"We ran 30+ events in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Oxford, Warwick, LA, Washington DC, NYC, Cologne, Lisbon, Busan & Singapore, we published thousands of articles, we ran the industry’s only print magazine in The ESJ (14 editions!), we had newsletters focused on key verticals, we ran multiple podcasts, covered live events, & more, all the while trying to grow, champion & cover the sector as globally and as top to bottom as possible. From Movember pub quizzes to our Hall of Fame in the Natural History Museum, the WFH League, & our Film Festival debuting at BAFTA in London, there are plenty of highlights."

No more ESI London events

Esports Insider was founded in 2016 and incorporated as a private limited company in 2017. It ventured into esports news, but also business events, marketing, and media through various subsidiaries. Sam Cooke already has a new venture lined up, but he will reveal more information at a later date.

A report by Esports News UK confirms that ESI London events will come to a close, marking the end of an iconic business event that brought some big names in the industry together.
