Epic Games Store to have 12% cut, unveils Now on Epic program

The first six months will see 100% of the revenue go to the developer as part of the program!

Epic Games is planning to roll out new stores for Android and iOS later this year. As part of the GDC announcement, the game developer and publisher announced it plans to provide developers with 100% revenue for the first six months. However, there’s a catch as developers would need to sign exclusivity contracts with Epic Games Store.

What is the Now on Epic Program

The Now on Epic Program is a back catalog incentive program aiming to bring over developers to the Epic Games Store platform. Developers that already have their games on other platforms can boost their revenue by availing of this program which gives them a much higher revenue share.

Developers will get from 88% to 100% in their first six months after release on the Epic Games new Store for any game released before October 31, 2023. The game must be on another third-party PC store or included in a third-party subscription service.

After six months of exclusivity on Epic Games Store, the revenue share will revert to the 88%/12% formula. The program is available for enrollment until the end of 2024 and the games should be released on the Epic Games Storey by June 30, 2025.

“The Epic Games Store has a 88/12 revenue split for developers who distribute paid-for apps on PC and Mac and that will continue on mobile platforms. Developers do not pay Epic anything to distribute free apps. If developers offer in-app purchases, they can choose to either use our payment processing system with the 88/12 revenue share or use a third party payment processor and keep 100% of that revenue, just like they do today.”

Developers with three or more games on alternative platforms should bring at least three games over to Epic Store. Meanwhile, smaller developers with less than three published games should bring over all their games to the Epic's store The Epic Games Store has over 230 million players and 68 million monthly active users.

To release the product on the Epic Games store, developers will need to create a developer account first. After registering themselves, they can very much self-publish their new titles by following simple instructions.
