Five different esports categories were awarded to players, teams, and coaches alike at The Game Awards 2023.

The Game Awards 2023 celebrates all things gaming. From a slew of world premieres to awards spanning a multitude of categories. there's a lot to keep your eye on. That's why we'll dish out to you every esports category winner at The Game Awards for this year.

There were five categories, presented during the pre-show called the Opening Act. Unlike the Esports Awards, the esports categories at The Game Awards were a bit rushed. It focuses more on other aspects of gaming, but that's not to take away from the winners. They earned it.

Esports winners at The Game Awards 2023

If you're an esports fanatic, you'll definitely recognize the names of this year's winners at TGA 2023. Here they are:

Best Esports Athlete

  • Winner: Faker

Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok is an esports icon. The League of Legends mid-laner is a 4x World Champion, winning this year in 2023. He and T1 were at the forefront of LoL esports and he rightfully takes home The Game Award for Best Esports Athlete.

Best Esports Game

  • Winner: VALORANT

VALORANT had quite the year. It's VALORANT Champions Tour esports circuit started in Brazil. From there, players from EMEA, Americas, and the Pacific battled in hopes of traveling to Tokyo and Los Angeles to hoist trophies. It also won Esports Game of the Year at the Esports Awards.

Best Esports Team

  • Winner: JD Gaming

JD Gaming is a Chinese organization based in Beijing. They decimated League of Legends competition with first places finishes in the LPL Spring and Summer, along with the Mid-Season Invitational. It was only T1 that stood in their way at Worlds.

Best Esports Coach

  • Winner: Potter

Just like at the Esports Awards, Christine "Potter" Chi has won the Best Esports Coach at The Game Awards 2023. She turned a defeated Evil Geniuses VALORANT team into a juggernaut underdog. From that, they became the best team in the world winning VALORANT Champions 2023.

Best Esports Event

  • Winner: League of Legends Worlds 2023

Of course League of Legends Worlds 2023 won Best Esports Event at The Game Awards 2023. Not only did Faker once again win a championship, but it officially became the most-watched esports tournament of all time with a peak of 6.4 million viewers.
