In case you haven't heard, the latest co-op game from Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction, is getting a live-action movie adaptation. Sydney Sweeney will apparently be part of the main cast, according to sources.

Sydney Sweeney in Split Fiction

American actress Sydney Sweeney is most known for her roles in Euphoria as Cassie Howard, as Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus, and was also in Madame Web as Julia Cornwall.

It would appear that she is being enlisted for a main role in the Split Fiction live-action adaptation, a report from Variety says. This film is set to be directed by Jon M. Chu, who was also the director of Wicked and Crazy Rich Asians.

While we know of her casting, no information yet is available at the time of writing on which of the two Split Fiction protagonists, Zoe or Mio, will be played by Sweeney.

What we know about the Split Fiction live-action movie

Split Fiction was only released on March 6, 2025, but news of a live-action adaptation was reported that very same month. According to Variety, the adaptation "attracted a bidding war" between top Hollywood Studios at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. As the weeks passed, we learned more and more details about the film.

Sydney Sweeney is the first cast member to be revealed. And, as said above, the award-winning Wicked director Jon M. Chu is in charge of directing the adaptation.

Meanwhile, Story Kitchen (formerly known as dj2 Entertainment) will produce the film. This entertainment company was founded by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson. Johnson is not new to video game adaptations; he previously produced Sonic the Hedgehog movies, the Tomb Raider TV series, and the Life Is Strange show.

Story Kitchen is also set to work on a film based on It Takes Two, another split-screen co-op game from Hazelight Studios - the same developers as Split Fiction.

On top of Story Kitchen, Sweeney will also be the film's executive producer.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will be writing the screenplay. The duo previously worked on the Deadpool movies, including the most recent Deadpool & Wolverine.

We can expect more information about the live-action Split Fiction movie over the months, but don't bank on it releasing soon. For now, stick around esports.gg for more Entertainment news.
