Rooster Teeth is back! Original co-founder Burnie Burns has confirmed he’s acquired the rights of the beloved brand.
A simple X post of the word "butts" got everyone excited. Shortly after, that excitement was heightened through a press release. What was in that press release? Oh, just the news that Burnie Burns and his Box Canyon Productions has acquired the rights to Rooster Teeth.
The company that shut down just under a year ago is back with its original founder. And fans of old school machinima, hilarious let's plays, and other ridiculously funny content can rejoice with the return of the Red vs. Blue creators.

Rooster Teeth is back in the hands of Burnie Burns
Rooster Teeth is based out of Austin, Texas, and after 21 years of hearty laughter, the company closed its door. The announcement came in March of 2024, with everything shutting down by the middle of May that year.
Then general manager Jordan Levin notified employees of the closure, stating that "shifts in consumer behavior and monetization" were to blame. It was at this time that several of the company's properties were sold off or simply disappeared.
Fast forward to February 2025. Michael "Burnie" Burns, co-founder, former CEO, and former CCO, has returned Rooster Teeth to his hands. His studio, Box Canyon Productions, has allowed him the ability to regain the rights to RT.
This is great news if you grew up on the likes of Red vs. Blue, RWBY, Achievement Hunter, or even The Slow Mo Guys. The majority of the company's assets have returned with the purchase of Rooster Teeth, and Burns had this to say:
"I am excited at the challenge of bringing Rooster Teeth back to its roots. The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together."
Box Canyon Productions have already announced developments for new projects as well as classic Rooster Teeth properties. As a pioneer of online content, gaming skits, and so much more, it is exciting to think of the possibilites.
