Here’s how fans of the 9-1-1 TV show are helping firefighter families in need.

When a community works together, heroes emerge. The BuckTommy fandom, which refers to fans of the relationship between fictional characters Evan Buckley and Tommy Kinard from the 9-1-1 TV show, has launched a fundraiser to support the California Fire Foundation.

BuckTommy fandom supports California Fire Foundation

As of Jan. 10, wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles, with the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner working alongside local law enforcement and fire departments to respond to reported fatalities. The California Fire Foundation is also providing critical support. The non-profit organization is helping the families of fallen firefighters, firefighters themselves, and the communities they serve during this difficult time.

In support of these efforts, the BuckTommy fandom has launched a fundraiser. Particularly, Tumblr user bucktommypositivityproject created the GoFundMe page for it and shared the details in a post.

"Hello Bucktommy fans! I know there was very recently a fundraiser done over the holiday season. Times are tough, and I understand if it seems too soon to have yet another fundraiser. However, I felt it important to give an easy way to donate to the California Fire Foundation," bucktommypositivityproject wrote. "This is a fundraiser through GoFundMe. Funds will go directly to the foundation. I set the goal at $1180."

The post continued with a direct link to the GoFundMe page titled "Helping Firefighter Families in Need." The initial goal of $1,180 has already been surpassed. At the time of this article's publication, $3,035 USD has been raised, which is 257.2% of the initial goal. However, this doesn’t mean the donations should stop — the fundraiser will remain open until Jan. 23.

"The fundraiser will remain open until January 23rd. I encourage all who are able to donate, however, reblogging or sharing the donation link is just as helpful!" bucktommypositivityproject wrote in another post. The Tumblr blogger also published screenshots of donations and thank-you messages.

Going beyond entertainment: The power of fandom

This isn’t the first time that a fandom has united to help others. For example, Marvel Trumps Hate is a charity auction featuring all Marvel characters, pairings, and universes. In 2024 alone, Marvel Trumps Hate raised a grand total of $47,000. The donations helped 30 different charities.

"For those of us who have suffered, for those of us who are in the most danger now, for those of us who have died at the hands of the evil and cruel in power and are no longer with us. For all of us who are still here. Because we all deserve to be here, safe, cared for, and alive," the account stated at the end of the Marvel Trumps Hate 2024 recap.
