Fans of Blue Lock won't have to wait much longer for the next animated adaptation of the soccer series. Blue Lock: Episode Nagi is a movie following the journey of Nagi into Blue Lock prior to the release of Season 2 of the popular soccer anime.

Blue Lock is a soccer anime that attracted a lot of attention and adoration during FIFA World Cup 2022. Season 1 of the anime first aired in Japan on October 9, 2022. The premise is high school soccer phenoms are invited to a special training facility to hone their soccer skills.

The facility Blue Lock also operates as a survival grounds. Blue Lock's goal is to produce Japan's best soccer player ever to help Japan compete in soccer internationally. Those who fail at certain tasks or matches are eliminated from Blue Lock, blacklisted from careers in soccer afterwards.

Season 1's protagonist was Yoichi Isagi. During his journey, he meets Seishirou Nagi, whom the upcoming theatrical release is based on. Isagi needed time at Blue Lock to discover his strengths as a soccer player. Nagi, on the other hand, is a scoring prodigy when joining Blue Lock. Blue Lock: Episode Nagi dives deeper into Nagi's story prior to joining Blue Lock, also exploring his friendship with Reo Mikage.

This theatrical prequel of Nagi's backstory before Season 2 of Blue Lock releases on April 19, 2024.
