Black Butler Season 4 release date, manga spot, and more

The supernatural series is finally back… to school.

After years of waiting, Black Butler fans finally have a release date for Public School Edition, the long-anticipated Season 4 of the show. The anime effectively went on hiatus after Season 3 dropped way back in 2014, marking a 10-year gap between seasons. Meanwhile, mangaka Yana Toboso has been hard at work, with the series currently past its 200th chapter.

Details on Season 4, including the release date, were revealed on the official Black Butler website on Dec. 14, 2023. The reveal also included a short trailer showcasing some of the many new characters that will finally make it to the screen. A second trailer came out on Feb. 11, 2024, that shows the prefects introducing themselves to Ciel.

What will happen in Black Butler Season 4?

Season 4 will revolve around Ciel Phantomhive’s enrollment in Weston College, a prestigious school in Great Britain.

The Public School Arc begins at Black Butler chapter 67 and lasts until chapter 85. This makes it one of the shorter sections of the Black Butler story. The plot begins with a letter from Queen Victoria asking Ciel to investigate her missing relative, who happens to be enrolled at Weston. He arrives at the school and forms relationships with the four prefects. Each of the colorful personalities plays a role in the investigation.
