A Minecraft Movie has had an amazing opening week, but one specific scene from the film has been the root of chaos in theaters. The scene in question? When Steve, played by Jack Black, exclaimed "Chicken Jockey!" when the Minecraft mob appeared onscreen.
Slight spoilers for A Minecraft Movie ahead!
Chicken Jockey wreaks havoc
Jack Black's Steve points out a lot of things in the movie that were directly taken from the Minecraft franchise. This, in itself, has become a meme: Flint and Steel, Crafting Table, and even the "Steve's Lava Chicken" song. But, what stood out among all of Steve's obvious nods in A Minecraft Movie was Chicken Jockey. It was the source of some chaos and action in the film, but its influence has already transcended the big screen.
During the scene where the mob appears and Steve says "Chicken Jockey," people are joining in. For some, this is simply a fun activity to further their enjoyment of the movie.
However, other movie-goers have taken it too far and are causing disorder in the theater. This prompted a reaction from some theaters. In one incident, the authorities had to be called to kick out the unruly watchers.
This social media trend has propagated across the UK and US, leaving theaters littered with popcorn and other movie snacks. One theater apparently had to put up this warning, which also went viral for other reasons.

Chicken Jockey in Minecraft
The Chicken Jockey in Minecraft is a rare mob, with spawn rates only going as high as 0.48% under the most ideal situations. The one portrayed in the Minecraft Movie was a baby zombie riding a chicken, but the Chicken Jockey comes in many variations. The Chicken remains a constant, but the mob riding it could be a baby zombified piglin, baby zombie villager, baby husk, or a baby drowned.
It's considered a bigger threat than the normal versions of these mobs since it's smaller, harder to hit, and usually equipped with a strong weapon. An unarmored player can die from just a few hits from a Chicken Jockey!
