Two new runes, the Wisdom Rune and the Shield Rune have been introduced in Dota 2 7.33 gameplay update. Here’s what’s new in the game.
Two new runes have joined the ranks of Dota 2’s shiny collection. The Wisdom Rune and the Shield Rune are going to change the Dota 2 meta for the foreseeable future. Both pro games as well as pubs will see players scrambling to get that extra XP or the extra HP barrier. Here’s what we know about the new Dota 2 runes - the Wisdom Runes and Shield Runes.
Wisdom Runes
Have you ever experienced a game that just snowballs into a one-sided affair? The enemy has early lead and there seems to be no way in for you and your team. Wisdom runes aim to solve a small bit of that problem.
Explore the edges of the map to unearth Wisdom Runes, which grant XP boosts to any hero wise enough to steal one. Wisdom Runes spawn near your base, offering an easy-to-defend way to keep a losing game from spinning out of control.
Spawning near your base, Wisdom Runes grant you XP boosts and act as Tome of Knowledge that is available in the shop. With the addition of Wisdom runes, it also means heroes will level up faster, and will have the important talents earlier in this new patch. Expect more action, expect a lot more exciting gameplay.
Wisdom Runes grant 280 experience for each 7 minutes elapsed to the hero that grabs it.
Where to Find Wisdom Runes?
Wisdom runes spawn near your base. For the Radiant team, the Wisdom runes are near the top lane. For the Dire team, Wisdom runes are near the bottom lane.

Shield Runes
Unlike the Wisdom Runes, Shield runes are available in the normal rune spot - the river. The Shield runes provide 50% of your max HP as a barrier. The additional HP guarantees you are tankier - 50% more to be precise - and facilitates more aggressive gameplays, including diving under the tower.
River Power Runes also get an addition with the beefy new Shield Rune, which gives 50% of your Max HP as a barrier. Dive a tower for a kill in the early game — or walk up a blind hill to surprise both yourself and the enemy team.
Shield Runes scale really well into the late game. With a 50% HP barrier, tank heroes such as Pudge, Axe, or Underlord can gain more than 2000 HP in the late game. Even if you throw everything at such heroes, the chances of killing them instantly remain extremely slim.
