Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen has hinted that he will be making a return to Dota 2, as The International 2025 approaches.
Having retired from professional Dota 2 following The International 2024, Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen is now set to make his comeback. While the Esports World Cup 2025 is almost at its end, and The International 2025 is primed, this is the perfect time for his return. Although he returned to the game two months ago, now things are more concrete.
With that in mind, we take a look at the return of Topson, where he could end up, and what this means for the professional scene.
Rejoining Dota 2
Two months ago, a few sleuths from Reddit noticed that the Dota 2 account “Tundra.Topson” suddenly became active. After a long hiatus, Topson was back. However, it would only see him playing in a 5-stack with friends in party queue.
This continued for a while, up until two weeks ago, when his account suddenly entered a Battle Cup. Although only three matches are recorded via Dotabuff during this Battle Cup, there is speculation that Topson has been back on the Dota 2 wagon since. And with that, we got the teaser of his return.

Topson returns at TI looms - but why?
With a post made via his X profile on July 17, Topson confirmed that he would be returning. However, further details would be revealed on July 21. Although with that said, we have no idea just yet of the context surrounding his return. It could just be a return to streaming, with Dota 2 being his main focus. However, there is further speculation, as Topson has been known to function as a stand-in at The International if needed.
With TI 2025 fast approaching, players will be busy obtaining their visas for Germany later this year. However, as we know, players from certain countries often encounter trouble with this. Previously, Topson has stood in for Tundra Esports at TI 2023 before eventually joining the roster at TI 2024, where they finished in third place. He retired soon after, but it seems as though this is about to change.
Although we do not know just yet what will be coming for Topson in the future, this is already exciting. Topson's return could turn the tide if he were to rejoin the professional scene. But, for now, that remains to be seen.
