We spoke to Team Secret’s Puppey just after the announcement of BOOM’s departure from the team to ask him about the split.

On June 6, just a day and a half before the start of DreamLeague Season 20, Team Secret parted ways with Miroslav "BOOM" Bičan, their offlaner. The news was announced on Team Secret’s Twitter in the early afternoon, European time.

Esports.gg had a scheduled interview with Team Secret’s captain, Clement "Puppey" Ivanov, less than an hour after the news broke. We asked Puppey if he had any comments about BOOM’s departure, and the veteran player was candid in his response: “I mean, the thing is, we tried to work things out. And it didn't really, at the end of the day, it just didn't work out because he's not necessarily an offlane player.”

“We were just trying out things. And I think we just fell short. We were very close to beating a lot of teams. We were close to beating Tundra, we were close to beating Gaming Gladiators, and so on. Two really good teams and other teams also.”

“But we just fell short. And it just feels really sad because I felt like the team dynamic of people was really good. Like we're all really good friends, but we just didn't happen to win.”

A longer version of this interview will be published later.

BOOM’s departure comes following a disappointing season for Team Secret. The squad fell to eighth place in the DPC WEU 2023 Tour 3: Division I, and now faces an incredibly difficult path towards The International. The squad must compete in the regional qualifiers, against the entirety of Div II and Div I of the WEU region, with only the winner heading to TI. And they must do so in one of the most competitive and challenging regions in all of Dota 2.
