Despite winning two Majors (so far), Gaimin Gladiators’ slot at TI12 is still not confirmed.
Gaimin Gladiators has been crowned the champions of the ESL One Berlin Major! In the all-Western European Grand Final, Gaimin Gladiators defeated Team Liquid 3-1, securing another Major title. This championship marks a back-to-back Major victory for Gaimin Gladiators who also won the Lima Major in Tour 1 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC). The squad returns home with $200K USD and 500 DPC points.
Gaimin Gladiators Dota 2 roster:
- Anton "dyrachyo" Shkredov
- Quinn "Quinn" Callahan
- Marcus "Ace" Hoelgaard
- Erik "tOfu" Engel
- Melchior "Seleri" Hillenkamp
Two Majors, but no TI12 invite?
Apparently, winning two Dota 2 Majors is not enough to secure a direct invite to The International 2023. The Berlin Major awarded Gaimin Gladiators with 500 DPC points which totals their points to 1240. However, this amount is not enough to secure them a slot at TI12. Although the chances are incredibly high, there are unique circumstances that can put them out of contention.
According to Dota 2 statesman, Ben "Noxville" Steenhuisen, "Gaimin Gladiators' slot will likely be confirmed towards the end of DPC Tour 3."
On the other hand, runner-up Team Liquid secured their slot earlier on. They collected most of their DPC points from the WEU Regional Leagues, in which they finished first in both Tour 1 and Tour 2. Even though Gaimin Gladiators won two Majors, they lacked during the WEU debacle. This puts a gap between both teams' total DPC points.
This procs doubts regarding the DPC system as Dota 2 Majors are touted as more significant than regional competition. The captain of Tundra Esports, Wu "Sneyking" Jingjun also talked about the circumstances, calling it an "interesting system".
OG's pos 4, Taiga, responded to the tweet - "That's insanity IMO (in my opinion)."

But this is hardly a concern as Gaimin Gladiators have proven their extreme prowess. Following the Berlin Major, Gaimin Gladiators established themselves as Upper Bracket kings. For months now, there have been no equivalent challengers that could take down Gaimin Gladiators. There is one more Tour to go and Bali Major will offer lucrative DPC points. As the co-founder stated, they'll just have to win another Major instead.
